Buyers beware i think the Widow for sale is a scam.

Yeah just be careful guys....there seems to be a ton of scammers in our classified ads recently. I’ve recently sent pm’s on several bows with no response. Most don’t have a picture posted with their ad but want you to request pictures via email.

Yes the scammers are flooding this site. Buyer be very aware.

From: JamesV

This problem was eleminated over on the "other site" when they started charging to use the classifieds. Everyone knows a scammer is not going to spend $30 to steal your $500 bow.

I still think their should be a post count you have to reach before your allowed to use the classifieds.

Tis the season. One guy has 3 bows listed with no history.

Be careful, call the seller

From: Mike E

The problem was not eliminated by charging people to use the classifieds, nor the number of posts. I got burnt twice over there, once with arrows that were not the spine advertised, and other was on a '59 Kodiak. Both times pics were sent and PM's were exchanged, the Kodiak had a 2" scratch on the riser that was hidden by the angle of the pic. One guy had 1500+ posts the other over 2000. Notified one of the mods he said he knew them both personally and that "they would never do that". Neither one would refund even after I offered to eat the shipping back. Common sense is your friend. Phones were invented for a reason and Skype is free so you can actually see the person face to face and run the camera over the item advertised, this isn't science here guys.

Wow Mike that stinks

kginrick is correct, security is a personal responsibility.

Whether setting in your living room, walking through Walmart or shopping for a bow on the internet, it is ultimately YOUR responsibility to protect yourself from crooks, thieves and other low lifes.

This isn’t rocket science. Use common sense and make sure to talk to the other party. Scammers are on all the sites. As was said above, it’s your responsibility to protect yourself.

I’ve done many transactions with folks with no history. I make the call, get a comfort level, and make a decision to either proceed or not proceed with the transaction. It’s a 5 min call.

Bowllytag and Linvic both have the same email. No history with either one. Hmmmm

Lots of good posts up above. Yeah we need to protect ourselves. If if deal sounds too good to be true then it is.

Using the classified ads is privilege not a right...I would hate to bark too loud and loose the privilege.

"please implement a rule to protect me from the decisions I may make in a free society. No Thanks I will accept responsibility for my decisions" Yes exactly, but please continue to educate us to help us make the best decisions. I admit I never clicked on the "BEWARE INTERNET SCAMS" boldly written right at the top of the ads until I read this post. Some good information there, even though its "common" sense, many of us trusting souls can use the advice. Also posts like this help a great deal, thanks.

Who in their right mind would spend $30 and have a chance to make hundreds.

I do just what bluesman does … a few weeks ago a guy had a Toelke bow for sale.. we made a deal but I wanted his to call me or I him to finalize the deal. he wasn't willing to talk … so no deal!

Why would a guy not wanted to talk … because he has something to hind!!!

I started selling (and buying) on here way before I started posting to LW because I didn't have time at the time to enjoy LW. I had great experiences both buying and selling before I ever made a post. I don't know that requiring posts would be the answer.

You guys crack me up, as if talking to someone is going to insure you aren't scammed. Ever been to the carnival??

Barbara Hernandez is the fictional name of a character played by Drew Barrymore in an older SNL skit with Will Ferrell.

From: stickhunter
Date: 10-Dec-18

Juspassin, most of the scammers that troll these sites never had a bow in their hand, or even speak English fluently...Even a 5 min. Phone conversation will expose that...That is why they never respond to PM’s or accept the invitation for a phone call.

I feel I need to inform you folks that I emailed this morning about a Black Widow PLV longbow that recently appeared in classifieds. I requested photos and got them this afternoon. I then happened to call BW and asked Roger Fulton about the potential for weight reduction if I purchased this bow. By sheer stroke of luck, BW had that very same bow in their shop for a weight reduction and refinish under a different person's name. The serial number and other markings told the tale. I'm not calling the seller a scammer, but these facts are true and I can't think of another logical explanation.

From: Uncle Lijiah
Date: 13-Dec-18

I thought maybe they just mistakenly sent pics of different bow that they no longer own, but the specs in the ad match the pics they sent me.

I just don't understand how this thread isn't closed. Don't get me wrong, I think we SHOULD be able to ask question about potential scammers or just to verify a person. I asked about a person with no posts and got shut down immediately. ???

I had a bighorn for sale here and had a guy do his best to try and pull a scam on me.. sent me a fake money order that I had the bank confirm was bad. sad but I think some people make a decent living doing this at our expense

From: limbow

Post a pic of the item for sale, along with your name and date on a piece of paper. Eliminates a lot of scammers!
