Assuming you clicked on this post because you have a DW longbow, and if not, no problem, show your harvest pics anyway...

DeathWish longbow, I have one. Steve Welte, a good friend and the original owner, made it for me a few years ago. I have not honored and respected it as I should have, my fault alone. Just have not hunted with it as much as I should have, with my shoulder injury and surgery it's just too much weight now for me to draw. I'll never let it go however. Steve's a friend I have known from the seventies,...good man, better bowyer. I recommend DeathWish longbows,...his daughter has now taken over the company and makes the bows. As I understand it Steve is a consultant and stands ready to assist as needed. DeathWish longbows, in Richland Center, Sauk County, Wisconsin.

I have shot many bows, many, many, many, bows and I have yet to shoot a longbow as smooth, stable, quick, easy to point and shoot longbow. I absolutely love my dw, I don't know Steve near as well as you do, BUT, having spoken to him on the phone a few times, I'd say your correct - a great guy and WONDERFUL bowyer!

I had one and lied it but man if you didn't shoot it correctly the shock was brutal. The only longbow that rocked my elbow like no other. I talked with sr Tee and he couldn't have been nicer, I wish it wasn't so brutal on me because it was a nice bow.

I have one and it's my favorite longbow. My 1st Deathwish gave it up to the hot sun in a closed car - "hello!". Liked it so much had to have another and it's just as sweet as the 1st. You don't see these bows discussed or in the classifieds very often and I've often wondered why - secrets out!

My wife has one that Steve custom made for her in the late 80's. She loves it!

Just had mine out this AM...first time I have shot ANY bow for guessing, well over a year. I realize that I have to take some time and build up those ole muscle groups again. First shot out of her, nailed a black bear 3D left of the old boiler works about 10". I was surprised - I took my Red Wing Hunter out also, same distance, 5lbs lighter draw weight, my arrow hit consistently 16-18" below the vitals. I would have thought that the RWH would have more cast than the DW... not so. The RWH is such a blast to shoot, just an all around fun bow to shoot. DW out performs the RW, hands down. I know that there is a 5lb diff, but I would have thought that the pre-load in the curved limbs would have off set that somewhat. That Tonkin Boo in the DW just performs incredible. Have I mentioned how much I love my Deathwish Longbow lately???

I have one that's 52#@28 66" long, shedua riser with black walnut limbs. It is the best shooting bow I have ever owned, and it will never leave me -- that is saying a lot because I buy and trade many bows. It is very tolerant of different arrow spines. I start with full length carbon shafts with a certain weight head. Then, when an arrow breaks off just behind the tip, I cut the arrow shorter and put a heavier head on it. I get double use out of the arrow shafts because the Deathwish is so forgiving. Outstanding bows.

What have you all found to be best brace height for your setup? As I said above, I just started shooting again today and i have some wobbly arrow flight, not too certain if it is me or my tuning. I have mine set at 7.25" deepest dip in the grip.

Thanks

Brad....don't worry about the brace height until you get some confidence back in your shot.

It may have been discussed a few times over the years.

Steve usually wrote the recommended brace height in the specs on the bow.My wife's is a 68" bow and the recommended brace hieght is 6 3/4". That's where we set it, and that's where it shoots best. Extremely quiet bow.

I got one several months ago but haven't hunted with it yet. Shoots great.

Haven’t heard much about Deathwish longbows, I follow them on facebook and know that his daughter took over operations but there hasn’t been any updates in a year or more and wonder if it went belly up like a few of others in the last couple of years. As far as harvest’s the last 5 years haven’t been fruitful for me but still having fun being out in the woods.
