I buy the cheapest, and sometimes it's neither Gateway or Trueflight. Sometimes it's AMG, or Ozark Feathers out of Missouri...sometimes Bearpaw. There isn't just two feather companies.

I'm with George. I've bought them from about all of the companies. While I think Trueflight has been the most consistent over the many years, I really don't see a heck of a lot of difference between any of them, except for color. The new Gateways I've been buying seem to have the thinner quills. I usually buy by price unless a specific color is needed.

I like Truflight better. AND it's a problem for me. I live in WI and they can't sell to individual in WI. The feather I used is not carried by anyone I could find, so I have to have an out of state hunting buddy buy them and send them to me.

Same as George. I look for sales, buy by the hundred if possible. I have the time so I can make them work. I only buy white AMG feathers as the colors fade in the sun. If I was to judge a company by its product being 100% at least 98% of the time then Tru Flight gets the nod.

Unless things have change with Gateway, I found that the bases on the True Flights are thinner which I prefer. But, I have not used any Gateways for several years. I have tried other brands in the past and found the True Flights bases are more consistent.

I agree with the guys that noted Trueflights are more consistent and a bit better quality. Trueflight is more than twice the cost for me at times as i use full length and can easily get two fletchings out of most feathers--- except the Trueflights ive gotten lately are a bit shorter and i sometimes only get 1 depending on length im making. If you like barred feathers, only wild turkey feathers beat Trueflights for looks.
Sometimes bargains are not all they're cracked up to be--- i once got a pack of buggy bearpaw feathers that went right back.
I do like Sagittarius white and dye and burn my own.

I'm looking into trying goose feathers. Grind them and chop them and should be a quality feather. I would think. You guys correct me if you think I'm off base. The price would be right if one lives in the central flyway like I do.

Guys -
In My experience, Tru-Flight feathers will be more consistent in quill size and overall shape than Gateway. That being said, the small amount of culling required on the Gateway feathers usually compensates for the price difference.
Short story, I've used both and both are fine.

Trueflight for me, Gateway seem to have too thick a quill and can be inconsistant but they do have some nice different colours. The worst feathers that I have brought are Bearpaw bared, they are cut with a inconsistant quill width. Predominatly wide and are cut at to much of an angle. I Have 2 of their fletching jigs which I love useing but to fit their feathers has taken a lot of experimenting. the only solution has been to ues a taped on packer on the top edge of the magnet that holds the clamp. This kicks the feather over so the quill sits flat to the shaft, this is also needed when fletching helical.Brian

Gateway is pretty sloppy on the quill and requires sanding, Trueflight costs a lot more. After doing some testing with Marco Vanes and comparing the difference in noise, I have put on an elevated rest and probably won't be buying any more feathers.

Feathers only requirement is to keep an arrow on track, so I will always opt for the cheapest. And as for 'you get what you pay for'...that is BS and always has been. Sometimes you pay for high priced advertising and royalties on brand names. Yeah...that adage is pretty nonsensical nowadays.

Be careful with bleach. Sometimes it doesn't quit working, ie when use bleach to whiten bone. Modern feathers were white, then washed then dyed. Bleach is just another process that weakens the feather.

I don't know about Canada goose feathers but I did at one stage exclusively use domestic goose feathers for 6 yearsI still possessed a few turkey fletched arrows and I couldn't perceive any noise differance. Now for the main question gateway V/S tru flight it's your choice My choice is to cut and grind my own when available .I currently use Chinese feathers. There is a case for using tru-flight or gateway as some of the colors may be what you want.I occasionally use road kill bird feathers or some I find.I have used Pelican, Black swan. Hawk and Eagle.Don't use raptor feathers in the US as I hear it's illegal.Could be illegal here in Australia too.I have never had any problems as yet.I live by (waste not ,want not.)Even my arrows are made from recycled wood.OSR

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get goose feathers? I have tried to find bird processing places with no luck. Are the primary feathers from snow geese white or black? I know there are lots of geese taken on the prairies both east and west of Houston Texas. I just don't have any connections. Thanks. >>>>-----> Ken

I have always liked/preferred/ and used True flight feathers. They do seem to last longer, to me. Lately however, I have been using a lot of the Ozark 4.5" target maxx. So far I really like them. They seem to have much better quill consistency than gateway so u might give those a try too. And I have tried goose feathers, i wasn't impressed. The feather seemed rather weak compared to turkey. And to answer your question stated above snow goose primary feathers are blackish grey.
