What are some good wood arrow makers besides Rose City?

From: woodsman

Northwest archery, TP & Kim Sha and elite arrows.

10 Again Arrows in Red Oak, TX makes the best custom arrows I've seen. And he is very helpful if you need advice or help choosing exactly what you need.

It is easy to make your own, you can make them as plain as you want or as fancy. Plain shoots just like fancy, if you chose wisely.

Lost Nation Archery. And like dean said, it's pretty easy and enjoyable to make your own, I do. But if you're not inclined, Larry and Janice make great arrows and their customer service is top notch.

I make my own but some of my friends like Elite Arrows as Ron LaClair has said. Also D&M Custom Arrows ( Gary Hall, who is a member here ) makes some beautiful and functional arrows.

Twig Archery of Conesville, OH has been crafting custom arrows for thirty years.

Bob Burton of Whispering Wind still crafts excellent custom arrows too.

You are.

It takes a little gear and some patience, but you'll enjoy the process. I just finished a set of Red Balau that came out pretty nice. give it a try, I'll be you like it.

There are lots of good arrowsmiths out there for sure. However, I am in the learn to make them yourself camp. In doing that, you have the ability to play with all kinds of different arrow configurations (shaft tapers, FOC placement, different fletch configurations and so on) to find what REALLY appeals to you. You may find that the regular run of the mill arrow configurations don't do it for you. And unless you have a lot of disposable income, you aren't likely to be able to finance all those experiments. Just start with quality components and take your time.

For the price of a good set of arrows you can get started on making your own

Aromakr makes great arrows and he’s a wealth of archery knowledge

I'm with the "learn to do it yourself" group. You can start with decent shafts that will shoot very well for less than $30.00 a dozen. You can find good feathers for about $40.00 a hundred and you can get nocks and glue pretty cheap as well. A fletcher can be had for less than $40.00 and you're ready to go.

Get some wipe-on poly from the local hardware or big box store, and some Duco cement. The initial cost will be more than a dozen made-up wood arrows, but not much more at today's prices. After that the cost comes down and the pleasure of making your own arrows goes up. I've used the German Spruce from Kustom King for $28.50 a dozen and they worked great, spine was right there and the weight was pretty close as well, and they are as durable as any soft wood.

There are lots of videos on youtube that you can peruse to see how to go about it. You only need to do a dozen of your own to be hooked.

I forgot you will need a taper tool, but the Bearpaw that Kustom King sells works great and you can buy extra blades.

And don't be taken in by looks alone. Matched weight, matched spine, perfectly ground tapers are what make good arrows, not just appearance.

When the sky is gray before the dawn what lies in wait for the gobblers song When the call comes back and the birds respond what quivers slightly like a magic wand At the moment of truth when the shaft does sing what ends the hunt..... Shadow Wing

When summer's gone and leaves turn gold from frosty mornings to colors bold Our hearts are pulled to the woods again where hunting time must soon began With bow in hand and arrows true the goal is clear what we must do Release the hunting spirit bold then Autumns Legend can unfold

Firefly Deep within the forest glade, that's where the big bucks lie

The canopy is heavy there, it covers up the sky

In gloomy shadows void of light, nothing's very clear

especially the outline, of the ghostly whitetail deer

But when you send your arrow, upon it's deadly flight

you'll know it's path through the gloom, by fletching showing bright Like it's namesake, it's clear to see, like a beacon in the sky

This arrow is the hunters friend, it's called the Firefly

George, the poems come with the arrows and are free. The arrows are worth every penny

I was never much of a craftsman, but some good old ACME premium or Rose City shafting and patience got me by. My supplies were bought years ago, but I have a about 2 hours and less than $2 in each arrow. Good to see George is still around.
