He's a narrow 10 point, and I think he is only 2 years old.
Hope he survives the season, but around here it's doubtful.

Not sure on body size PA compared to Texas. I would guess no more than 2 years old if that. No sag in his back yet. Short snout. If he was a PA buck no more than 2. But in PA most times they don't get past 2 before they are killed.

21/2

From: Lowcountry

I'd guess he is no more than 2.

From: crookedstix

My guess is that he was born on May 11, 2016.

From: 76aggie

I think 2 1/2. He looks to be a healthy little boy.

That was my mother's 87th birthday Kerry.

I would agree that 2 1/2 years makes sense for that feller.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 15-Nov-18

It's sad, but he won't last long around here. Definitely not long enough to reach maturity & potential.

Rick

Rick, can you re-post the pic somehow? Thanks.

Just had one of his little brothers inside the fence in my back yard.

Pretty cool day, considering this is the first time in over 30 years of living here, that we've had a deer in the yard during daylight hours, and got to actually see him.

I wasn't fast enough to get the camera, and get a picture of him, but I do have pictures of the same deer from my trail camera.

Here's an upload to here of the little 10.

Maybe you guys can see it now.

Its only sad if you are a trophy hunter, if not, it made some hunter happy. What else can you ask for? Its fur and hooves.

This is not him in the back yard, but is a picture of the deer, that was just in the back yard.

I agree with Pearl. That deer here in the Allegheny Mountain foothills, taken from the ground is a trophy to me.

Decent deer for 1 1/2 poor genetics for 2 1/2 least here in Wis

From: PEARL DRUMS
Date: 15-Nov-18

Im not saying anything is wrong if you look for mature deer, but I just don't think its sad or too bad if some hunter takes him out before he is older and bigger. 1.5 or 5.5 years old he is still somebodies pride and joy.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 15-Nov-18

Yeah well, you folks that have a lot of deer in your area can afford to be a little more lenient.

In my area, there are few deer (very few), so I would love to see folks being a little more selective in the shooting of them.

Rick, we used to have a lot of deer, but now we have a good population, but not 'lots'. I think it's the way we look at things and where we hunt. A trophy to me is what I work for regardless of antler growth, and at the end of life I doubt that I'll wish I let him grow another year if I happen to kill a 2 1/2 year old six, eight or ten point. It's a bit of work back here to hunt from the ground among the wooded ridges and valleys.

We have antler restrictions here and that allows most deer to grow. We used to be able to take spikes, now it must be three to a side, so it's not like were killing off the seed. I'm sure there are regional differences in Texas like anywhere else, but you can hide a lot of deer in a state that size.

Got it now. It could be a 1.5 yo. Here is a couple bucks I saw in Texas back in Aug. I think the bucks there are smallish bodied but big racked overall.

From: Tlhbow
Date: 15-Nov-18

Rick is that like 90# or so? When is rut breeding season there. I'd guess 2 yes but wouldn't be surprised if he's three if that's wire rack country. Nice deer.

1 1/2 with good nutrition and genetics. Otherwise 2 /12.

Guessing 1 1/2 but I'm not too familiar with Texas deer.

From: Bassman Professional Bowhunters Society - Qualified Member

Two to three years old. I had to pass on three different buck this year that were not legal. I killed an 8 pt. with 16.5 inch spread. The first thing I said to myself was, this is a young deer. In two more years he would have been a thin horned 20 inch wide buck, but I chose to kill him. It is what it is I guess.

1 1/2

He’s a young buck the type you should let walk if you can help it.

From: GLF
Date: 15-Nov-18

Too much mass in between tines for 1 1/2. Hes definately 2 1/2 but was probably a little late being born.

From: DarrinG
Date: 15-Nov-18

Im not familiar with Texas deer either, but I'd guess 1.5 if he comes from good genetics. And I think he's a "trophy" for anyone who appreciates the hunt and the table fare. Taking him from a treestand don't belittle the hunt, kill or the meat in the freezer, to me.

From: Rick Barbee
Date: 15-Nov-18

Well, we'll never know what he "could/would have been".

Neighbor bordering me on the south killed him this afternoon.

Hopefully he spread some of them genetics before he got blasted.

Rick

From: Tlhbow
Date: 15-Nov-18

He looks slim and trim. It's his face that makes me think his older.(3) yo

From: Kodiak
Date: 15-Nov-18

1.5 in Minnesota.

From: Shag
Date: 15-Nov-18

Body looks like a 1.5 year old deer. Face is slightly elongated like a deer that's 2.5 around here. Could go either way. He's got the genetics to be a dandy if he lives that long.

From: Terry J
Date: 15-Nov-18

looks like a classic 1.5 with good potential. prolly born a little early in the year.

From: TrapperKayak
Date: 15-Nov-18

Id age him from his teeth now that he is dead to satisfy my curiosity. Maybe you can ask the neighbor to see it.

From: Bowguy Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member
Date: 16-Nov-18

You know I’d say for sure the deer is 1-1/2. I than realized the deer was from the south. I’m no expert there but it shows no jowels, swayed back, etcof an older deer. I think the two guess of 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 are close enough. I will say if it’s 2-1/2 I’d think those horns are pretty poor. I don’t think miracously it’s gonna get huge anytime next year. If he’s dead, age em and tell us

From: Bjrogg
Date: 16-Nov-18

This is what you should let walk. It's not going to happen though. He's one of the guys I'd wish was still around breeding the does. Never gonna get a law passed to save him and even if you could someone would break it.

2 yo give or take 6 either side of the speculation. Give him another year on your rack jack and he might look like he wants to die. Keep feeding him and take a doe instead.LOL

LOL guys.

My neighbor didn't even want me to get a close up look at the buck, much less get a tooth age on it.

This is an old problem, that isn't going to go away.

They know they are wiping out our local deer herd, and don't care.

Rick

From: 4nolz@work

That's why they fence them in to keep the neighbor out

[[[ "That's why they fence them in to keep the neighbor out." ]]]

I'd love to do that, but it don't make much sense to high fence 40 acres.
