This was posted through the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation email: 'An important vote is scheduled next week in the U.S. House regarding wolf management. H.R. 6784, the Manage our Wolves Act, would permanently delist wolves in the Western Great Lakes states of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as Wyoming, and prevent further judicial review. Wolf populations in those states are all well above both minimum recovery levels and state wolf management plan objectives.

Gray wolves have exceeded recovery goals in these states and no longer require federal protection. State wildlife agencies are best to manage predator and prey populations through public hunting and other management tools in order to strike a balance for gray wolf and ungulate populations.

Please contact your legislators immediately and urge them to again vote in favor of this bill.' With the House still in Rep. control, now is the time to get this done. CALL YOUR Representatives and urge them to vote for H.R. 6784, if you live in these states and want the wolves permanently de-listed. Its now or (possibly) never with the Dems. taking over the House in Jan.

That sounds like a good one, so long as there’s no foolishness baked into it...

Science first!

If I were able, I'd solicit every Wisco-ite, Yooper, and Swedish Chef I could into calling their Reps. NOW to get them to vote for this Act and get it passed to de-list the wolves so their states can manage them. They are right, the populations (from everything I hear) are large enough to be self sustaining and not in any danger of going back to threatened status. C'mon guys - I am not even from your states, but I'm on your side, and I'll bet the chances of them arriving in NY are pretty good too in the next decade or two. Your deer (and dogs) will thank you!!!

Cheeseheads - ACT NOW!

JMO, the way to sell this one to the Dems is to point out that the Repooblian supporters of this bill are simply calling for decisions based on SCIENCE.

If it’s a good way to manage wolves, then it oughtta work for CO2 as well, eh?

Do I recall that the Gray wolves now in the United States were imported from CANADA? E. Donald Thomas (?) wrote an article in OutDoor Life concerning these creatures and a danger that came with them. Prime vector for the following. Echinococcus granulosus

Tapeworm species in Canadian Wolves. The wolves are primary vectors. The tapeworms can invade any warm blooded animal. Surgery is the only cure. Medicines are not effective (at the time of writing) Stupid people knew of this and DID nothing. A case of science being out shouted or gagged. BE CAREFUL!

I want to know who wrote the bill, who is sponsoring it and I would like to see the entire bill language. I don't trust Congress to use science, especially not this Congress and as several have said, it might be a good bill but is there foolishness baked in?

TrapperKayak Thanks for the heads up! Spreading the word! This Bill was Co-Sponsored by a Dem. Tammy Baldwin.

I believe it was introduced by Wisconsin Rep. Shaun Duffy a Hayward boy.

Muskyhunter you are right and i did find it odd that Balwin supported it. But hey who knew. You ever do any bow hunting around Boulder Jct. Seems to me i use to see a truck with that on his plate just west of town.

They should change the title...they aren't "our" wolves; we don't own them--or any other wild animal.

Gotta agree with stick&string. No matter how good the bill may sound and who drew it up, I don't trust anyone in Washington or my own state government to do anything the right way.

If they would pas this bill, no mater what it is based on, we all know it would be the right thing to do. You don't have to trust anyone once the bill gets passed.

The Bill itself is about delisting wolves for the states to manage. Will they try and add to it (Probably) It you don`t speak up then don`t bitch later. Same goes for voting.

Delisting is the main thing to consider. In Wyo though, the same judge that axed the griz hunt will probably do the same for the wolves there if he is the one to review the bill. I am searching for more info. and will post what I find.
