I've been lucky to hunt and kill a lot of great deer here in Iowa but this one is absolutely at the top of the list. I killed this buck at 5 yards from the ground while hiding in a downed tree wearing my ghillie suit. I made this Osage bow from a tree growing on our property and the only power tool to touch it was the chainsaw I used to cut the tree down. Other than that, it was all splitting wedges, draw knife, scrapers, rasps, files, and sandpaper. She draws 62 pounds at my 27" draw and I hit him right in the 10 ring with a hand sharpened Zwickey Eskimo broadhead. I made the cedar arrow and fletched it with two goose and one turkey feather from birds we have killed here in Iowa. He went less than 40 yards and was stone dead in seconds. The arrow went between ribs on the entry and split a rib on the other side but stayed in him. Other than hunting with my kids, the best hunt of my life.

Fantastic buck with any kind of weapon. Really special with a selfbow you made yourself. I remember my 1st with a selfbow, and he was nothing like yours, but I have hunted with nothing but homemade selfbows since. The feeling can't be beat. Again, Congratulations!

That a beautiful bow you made, and it must be the greatest feeling to have taken a buck with a bow you built with a tree right from your own property. I'm jealous!
