Many years ago a bowyer that never quite got to the big time made me one to try. It was those pre fast flight days. There was a lot of limb wobble, but it shot no faster than my Groves or my Jack Howard Jet.

Thinking it might be better to discuss the RC type limb.

Does anyone have a simple definition of how a recurve limb works to exceed straight limbs?

I already know the basics of why but not in detail.

Once that is understood, there may a reasonable conclusion as to the design and how the Turkish/Mongol bows were so efficient.

Comparing different bow designs is so not simple. The math needed is pretty complex. Here’s one example (prepare to be flummoxed!):

I don’t pretend to understand everything that author discussed but I can try to paraphrase his findings... Super recurves are rather inefficient compared to working recurve or static recurve bows.

I'm of the opinion that whether a recurve be static tip or of a big hook profile that they are both..."Working Recurves"...and the work they do doesn't defy physics (like many naysayers proclaim) but rather "Is Physics" that plays out in the form of...

"A Leverage Advantage"

over the working mid-limb as the bow is drawn.

The static tips of Horse-Bows (aka: "Siyahs") is what allows a higher concentration of energy in a rater short area of working mid-limb with even the 5th curve of the reflexed handle section playing a role in some examples...but not the leverage yielding Siyah "Static Tips"

This is a westernized 5 curve bow that I collaborated with Steve Jewett of Bushmen Bows in the design of...notice in the following unbracing vid how the limb tip actually relax a bit with the unbracing of this rather radical bow design that was only made possible through the use of modern materials...

and this is me shooting the first shots out of it as a bow that scaled 63.5#@26" as shot from a DL of 26"s...

my point?...while nothings new under the sun?...it doesn't mean they don't stop improving as father time marches on. ;)
