I don't guess I get what the notches are for, on the right side. Except for those it would be simple to just run the stated size drill through a nice piece of wood or plate. No idea where to get one. >>>----> Ken

2 bears, I'm guessing to allow room for index nocks to fit?

Then it would not be a problem either. The notch wouldn't have to be accurate just for clearance. Drill sizes would take care of the rest. >>>-----> Ken

Turkeyman, Your welcome.

Turkeyman:

You can do the same thing with a micrometer and more accurately. Unless holes are drilled properly they can be way oversize. The ones in that gauge were probably stamped and should be close.

When that thing was made, was 5/16 the largest aluminum shaft size?

I think you mean a dial caliper rather than a micrometer, Bob

An 0-1" micrometer will do the job quite handily. (outside mic) bvd

If the bit is sharp and drill press running true, it won't cut oversize. Certainly not a 1/64 over or under which would be the next size. I can see where this would be a quick check for sizes, without the expense of mikes or calipers. Might even take time to make one from a nice piece of wood. >>>----> Ken

I agree Ken. A halfway decent caliper will be at least 30 bucks and a micrometer is more than that. You can’t beat a caliper for sorting through a bunch of mixed up field points, though. If I were not a reloader and already had a caliper, I would just make the board to gauge arrows and points by.
