Since my Bear Polar was missing the Medallion, I'm thinking this is a 59? I didn't want to spend a lot to try to get one for the proper year. A little bit of sanding on the edges and it fit right in. I'm sure this has been done before, Nemah ? JF

I like that and have them on a riser myself.

I've done that with a few in a previous century. Looks great.

When I get this ol Bear Polar refinished. I will set this Indian,Buffalo nickel into it. A cheap way to fill the hole. JF

Both one on each side, in the same place, like it is a solid coin and you can see it all. >>>>-----> Ken

Tough call, I'd say "flip the coin" and let it decide.

From: Kodiak

Tough call but I'd go with heads.

Both look great.

Nope. I have looked on Ebay for 12 years now, and I can tell you with authority that it is a rare, vintage, 1953!

I’d go with the buff

Buffalo side for me. This guy was 10” from me in Yellowstone. And yes, I was on the walkway! Lance

Kind of hard to tell from the pics but it looks like the buffalo side is a lot more worn down - more detail remaining on heads. I’d go with the best-preserved side. And maybe set it deep enough to protect it some. Though I guess it’d look horsey if you were to encase it in epoxy...

Anyway, JMO, pick the best side and you can’t go wrong.

BTW.... You wouldn’t happen to know if they were making those in 1900? (the nickels, that is!)

Sorry, 10” is wrong. He was 10’ from me. LOL! Lance

I like it. Looks neat!

Plus, "Buffalo Nickel" was a cool CD by Dan Baird, if you happen to like loud guitars and power chords...which I do.

Heads. Would seem to show some respect for our Native friends.

crookedstix - I'm a big Dan Baird fan, but somehow missed that CD. I'll have to check it out.

Bodymanbowyer - that is flat out cool!

Definitely tails

I have a ‘59 Polar and I think the nickel looks better than the original Bear coin.

Good job

Did that with a elk horn peace pipe that i made. Put the buffalo head nickel on the bottom of the pipe. Gave it to my son. He loves it.

I agree with 2bears.

Heads or tail, put one on both sides.
