looked at several bear bows today and one was a kodiak special without a coin,no place where a coin could go. did bear make them with and with out coins? Thanks.

Yes, coins first appeared in 1959.

While rare, there are some '59 K Specials without the copper coins. A respected collector once was recording the serial numbers of '59 and '60 Kodiaks and K Specials with everyone's input on another web site, and there was a photo of one on the web that popped up somewhere, so they do exist.

How do you know it was the 3rd one? Just curious.
By the way, Bear started their next year's production in September so maybe that's why the early ones didn't have a coin. Anyway, those 59 Kodiak Specials are good lookers and good shooters.
