Buck was still in velvet not sure why he still had his balls maybe he injured them somehow, taxidermist said it the first pa buck he’s ever had in his shop that still had its velvet in all the years he’s been doing it. So I’m having him freeze dry the antlers to preserve them and get a euro mount.

Some nice pictures from members who were successful in 2018.

From: Nemophilist
Date: 07-Feb-24

Where I'm at in Pennsylvania (Southwestern) the early archery season starts in mid-September and ends in late November. Then the late archery season starts the day after Christmas and ends the end of January. For example, the early season in my area for 2023 started September 16, 2023 and ended November 24, 2023. Then the late archery season started December 26, 2023 and ended January 27, 2024.

You can hunt with a bow in rifle season if you want.

From: Supernaut
Date: 07-Feb-24

I don't remember what the last day of archery season was back in 2018. I was lucky enough to kill my buck early that year.

You can hunt with a bow in rifle season. PA also has a season that comes in the day after Christmas that is archery and flintlock.

PA is a one buck per year state with any weapon. If someone killed a buck in rifle season they would only be able to kill a doe after that if they had a doe tag.

I have bluesman yes.

This year was a little tough though, i hunted a REALLY big buck all season. Just couldn't get within range of him.

I did end up killing a 7 pt , and i filled no doe tags this year.

The buck i was after made it through firearms.(again) I'm already trying to keep tabs on him.

He is an old mt buck, when the SF has the gate closed it is a long walk back there.

They open it for firearm season, and then its only a mile or two walk..I have kept my fingers crossed for the last 3 yrs that he makes it through gun season.

From: Wudstix Professional Bowhunters Society - Associate Member

A few year ago I got to spend a few days with my very dear friend who was about to turn 80. I had been hunting and fishing w him since I was nineteen years old. Together we had the good fortune to take many fine bows w the bow. He still had one small spot outside of Philadelphia that we could hunt. He had seen a good one a few times and offered me the opportunity to try and hunt this buck with a styk bow as age and injuries now forced him to use a cross bow. He did not want this buck to be harvested that way. I slipped into the stand and a few hours later this buck snuck in behind me while I was taking a leak. I was able to finish my business, put my pee bottle down and pick up me bow. I have a habit of counting slowly when I think I might get a shot at a good buck. This started when I was young and would get a little to excited. It was a trick my father taught my brother and I to avoid buck fever. Any way 1,800 seconds pass from the time I pick up my bow until I got the shot. The buck was with in ten yard the entire time. But being early in the season the jungle of vines was in full bloom. Any way I got an 8 yard shot with a 65 yard recovery. The buck was a 9 point w a 18.5 inch inside spread. Dress out at 204 lbs. The bow I used was a 48# Covert Hunter - Hex 7.5 limbs with a 520 grain nitro stinger and an old Premium - the for runner to the steel grove broad head. Thanks - Bowhogan51

Nice buck, picture and story Bowhogan.

Thanks guys, as the world turns and now I find myself working in Philly. I just joint Wapiti Archers near Fort Washington. Use to shoot there until I moved to North Carolina. I am also going to check out a few little holes that I was always able to hunt when I lived in the area incase I am working here in the fall. Maybe I will find a few sheds. Thanks to everyone who take the time to post of comment. Bowhogan
