This bow is hickory with 1/8” maple on the belly, and backed with cloth. I know my tiller is awkward, too stiff towards the nock end. Should this be addressed? It is actually smooth, and seems to be a good shot off the knuckle. Drawing about 55# at 27”. If I thin the tips, much will that reduce draw weight? Thanks for any advice. Also, I understand my elbow is high, bad form that always happens unless I consciously correct it. Thanks for any thoughts, new to site. Currently shoot a #50 OMP ozark hunter. Happy hunting.

The only way to reduce draw weight would be to remove material from the limbs not the tips.

Most of the bending takes place in the middle and the mid limb on is stiff. That type of tiller usually results in extreme hand shock.
So I guess you have to decide whether or not you need to get mid limb on bending. Yes. you will loose weight.

I second what Nolz said. Even with stiff mid-limb it will shoot arrows and that's what bows need to do. Build another, then...…..

Looks like the bow is upside down! Long limb is on the bottom instead of the top.

George, your site is a staple of my free time reading. Thanks for your interest in helping people, I’ve seen your name on like 3/4 of the posts here and on primitive archer, you got hawk eyes for answering questions! Bob I think you might be right. What’s funny is I’m a cabinet maker and avid woodworking enthusiast. This bow thing is a totally different ball game!

George has it right on the money, you need to get the middle of the limb to bend also.

It looks like the same thickness from top to bottom so thats how it will look without tapering from the grip to the tips. If you retiller it, it will loose weight but there is always the option of making it shorter or backing with something else.

So I did about 10 scrapes with cabinet scraper on each limb 16” from nock out to tips, then about 15 scrapes the last 8” towards tip. That seemed enough to get a little more bend. Probably down to 50# or maybe a little less. Will check. Will post a picture when oil is dried. KyPhil those are good points, thank you!

Dan, I am glad you are using my site. You have a great attitude. Hang in there. Making bows is a different skill. I am a woodworker and woodworker's son. Learning to make would bend is a different skill. Jawge

I'm just a picture flipper. Tillering takes actual skill & experience!
