Made it three years ago, and it is still going strong.Shooting it on a beat up 45" Ben Pearson that i fixed up.Did it as an experiment. Was not using the line any longer for fishing.Keep it waxed and inspect it often. The diameter is about the same as a 10 strand d97,and performs the same.It is softer than d97 , but shows no signs of fatigue.Bet their are a few of you guys that have tried this also.So far good results.Good shooting and hunting.

I've often wondered what the difference was between modern bow string material and modern low-stretch fishing line like 'Spiderwire', Power-Pro, etc. Probably in the precise formulations.
If you have it, it's paid for, so why not try it?

You guys have used BCYX i am sure. I have not.Pearl drums says i should try it because of it,s softness. I was thinking maybe this fishing line may be close to it in softness, but have no real idea.I do know that it is softer than d 97. Just tinkering.Good shooting and good hunting.

I wouldn't try either of those..They aren't very nice to guides.

Please wear your safety goggles and clean the lab when you are finished.

There are plenty of guys in the self bow arena using it, have been for many years. Its just fine and dandy. But beware, its generally not cheaper unless it's some you spooled off a reel. A 60" string will take about 25 yards worth, give or take. Strand count is based off the pound test you use. I wouldn't hesitate to use it if I didn't already have gobs of low stretch string materials in my shop.

A note about braided fishing line. Don’t know about actual bow string materials, but braided fishing lines have been tested a lot, and most break at almost double the rated lb test.

May have been two bundles 15 strands each. Yun no sweat, when i fix them they are like new or i don,t shoot them.No Lab cleaning with me except a selfbow once in a while when i first started building them. If i thought for a second the string or the bow was not safe i would not have tried it.I know how strong one strand of 65" braid is, and my ability to repair recurves. I sort of figured other guys had tried it,since bowyers are a resourceful bunch.

Braided fishing line will cut through ANYTHING. I sure wouldn't use it on a bow!

Yep...what PD said. The material that low stretch fishing line is made from is the same as low stretch bow string material. When Spectra first came on the market for the fishing world there were lots of folks making strings out of it.
When I made them, or if i decided to star making them again, I figure enough strnds to amont to around 10 or so times the draw weight of the bow, and then serve the loops to fit the string grooves.
