A couple of recent threads on broadheads etc. brought this home to me -

What, for you, has stood the 'test of time' - quality stuff that lasted and lasted ?

There are a lot of old bows that clearly have - I have a few shooters that date back to the 70's and I'm sure some of you have even older.

Broadheads - some designs have been killing deer for generations now.

Knives - The Buck 110 and a lot of others have been serving hunters well for decades.

What do you reach for every new hunting season?

Schrade and Buck knives, Zawickey and Ace broadheads, and my old Silva compass. Time tested..........

Black Diamonds, and "instinctive" shooting style.

I like new AND old. I shot the same bow for 9 years and that's the longest I've ever shot the same bow. Actually would still be shooting it if it wasn't for age.

I like Lone Wolf and Milennium treestand, but find myself putting up more ladders.

I have a caper and skinner that I've been using for 30+ years.

Broadheads are 160 Snuffers and 160 STOS for big big game. Used greenies and MA3's for longer than the above.

Ace and more recently HH broadheads.

Hunt from ground by choice then, but hunt from ground now because I can't climb anymore.

Bows D/H .....Larry knew how to make them.

The past 25 years HH longbow, now into selfbows.

Knives, I never liked the steel and the design of Buck knives. I didn't buy because of the name, the knife had to meet my specs. Most of my knives which weren't many because they lasted were hand made by me or picked up at knife shows.

There are bows still going from the 40's and 50's too, and a good many of them as well. My newest bow is around 1970-73 manufacture. Still used Bear Razorheads, and Ace...which is much older than Bear Archery by two decades. New and shiny is an attractant but I like my older stuff that works just as well.

Woolrich clothes is time-tested and most of mine is at least two decades old...luckily I still fit in it. ;). I guess I'm kind of time-tested myself so I tend to hang with others of that ilk.

Nothing wrong with new, but usually that comes with a much higher price.

Schrade knives although Western was my all time favorite and Bear Razorheads. Also like Ace and Zwicky. But new is good to, my favorite bow I own is my Timberhawk Talon Hunter which is a baby at five years old.

My Schrade "Old Timer",and Buck 110 Hunter have been with me for over 46 years. You weren't a Forester in Montana, if you didn't have your Buck 110, or your White's Logging Boots. On broadheads, it's been Zwickeys and my most favorite, the 145 grain "Snuffer".

One I have to mention - a pair of Scarpa (Asolo) Attak hiking boots. I bought these about thirty years ago, took a while to break them in. Heavy leather construction, great support. Not truly watrproof, but in my experience, neither are the modern laminates.

I Sno-seal these every fall, and other than replacing laces and cushion insoles every several years, they still truck along.

I don't hike on hard rock, so the soles are still in decent shape.

I've gone through many pairs of cheaper boots but I suspect these will outlive me.

The knife I carry on most hunts is a Buck 102 Woodsman, fixed blade. Takes and holds a good edge, decent size, would probably be a bit small for moose but fine for my needs.

The best thing is, it was free. Found it while hiking many years ago while hiking, I'd guess it came off someones belt while they 'answered the call'. Lost it myself once in the junk pile I called my car trunk. Found it six months later, cleaned it up again and it's still good to go.

I own other knives, some bigger, some prettier. This just works.

Ace and Zwickey broadheads. Easton XX75 Camo Hunter 2219's. Seems like forever.

I forgot to mention my Microflite arrows that I've been hunting with lately. Will be using them again this year with the old Bear Greenies glue onto adapters. My Silverado is starting its 16th year as well and trucking right along...pun intended.

B50 string material, Old Timer knives, Old Hickory knives, Cast Iron Cookware, and George Stout :'). DANNY

Buck knife,Bear broad heads,old tattered camo hat, old tattered camo good luck one piece cover alls,and at times an old trusty 64 Bear Kodiak, and in real cold weather a white pair of Bunny Boots.

Forgot Judo points.

Zwickey broad heads, L.L Bean boots and wood arrows.

Wool and a Hat. An old Marbles knife that my granddad got with Kellogg box tops.

LL Bean boots , Johnson and Filson wool and most of all my best friend and hunting partner.

Bear and Pearson bh’s I have had forever. As for knives, I seem to have “collected” a bunch over the last 50+ years. Long as their sharp. My compass I “liberated” from Viet Nam.

Wool army blankets and hunting clothes, Korean War-vintage Air Force down sleeping bags with the silk inner lining, cast-iron frying pans, Forgewood arrows with Razorheads, and a Howatt bow made in the 60's.

However, I will say that new-fangled gear like folding pruning saws, headlamps, Smartwool socks, and many modern brands of tents are all major improvements that I also love using.

I forgot to mention the Old Hickory knives were the cheaper of the bunch but had the sharpest and toughest blades of any. They would rust real easy, because it was high carbon steel.

My Old Timer Sharp Finger has been with me for almost 40 years. Love that knife.

Zwickel judos...

Been using my LL Bean Maine hunting boots for 35 years. Had them resoled about 8 years ago, still going strong. I have only been shooting trad for 3 years, but have come to love Ace standards and Snuffers. Don’t use it as much, but my Old Timer sharp finger goes with me in my pack.

Have one my grandfather used since WWII for night fishing and camping. It went camping with my wife and I over 49 years ago and many times after that and it still goes camping with me and my grown grandchildren almost every winter in Florida. Just change the mantles, oil the pump, fill with fuel, and it always works fine.

Schrade Sharpfinger, Woolrich, milsurp woodland bdu pants, Bear and Zwickey 2-blades. And this year a 1955 Bear Grizzly static with some NOS Rose City tapered cedars, natural turkey Fletch...

My buck 110 served me well for almost 40 years, field dressing and butchering everything from trout to squirrels, grouse, deer and elk. Even pounded a few tent stakes as a kid. My cast iron skillets and dutch oven have been in service for 30 years.

I finally replaced my old worn out Kelty pack and tent with a new Kelty pack and tent.

Hunting the northern great plains in the fall-winter months is certainly more comfortable, even enjoyable with Filson wool pants and wool cruiser coat.

Most of my hunting arrows are tipped with MA3's.

I love my Marbles Fieldcraft fixed blade knife. It has a sturdy backbone and takes an edge and holds it real well. This goes with me any time I am out wandering the woods, hunting or otherwise.

Also love my Snuffer 160 grain, glue on broadheads. Big holes and lots of blood. Easy to sharpen.

A 1960 60# 60"AMO LH Kodiak that belonged to my Grandfather that I recently passed on to the 4th generation and now we have the 5th gen Lefty and he started shooting this summer at 5 y/o so we know where the Kodiak is headed when the time comes. I hope I'm still here to see it.

The knives that I use the most and always travel with belonged to my Dad and Grandfather.

Snuffer 160's and Magnus 160 2 blades.

The Case Trapper on the bottom was made in 1955. I've had it for almost that long and it's always in my pocket when the leaves turn in the fall. If it could talk it could tell you some stories. :)

Have a 1977-78 Western S-532 black lock blade knife which is still going strong as a hunting knife. Should outlast me.

My medium Alyce pack. It is a faithful help in keeping me organized and gear ready when I need it most, up a tree, and, prepared to field dress deer. Early on I tried using side open packs with zippers, only to dump the contents from up the tree too often.
