It looks as if the strongest double-sided mounting tape for use in mounting a temporary site on my bow would be 3M VHB foam tape. What do you use when you mount stuff with double sided tape?

For the purpose you describe, I would use a Shoo-Goo type adhesive: Goop, Gorilla clear, E6000, etc.
Steady adhesion on most surfaces, yet you can carefully pick an edge and roll it up to remove with little or no damage or liftoff.

Snow Crow: Thanks for that suggestion. I have tried "Shoe Goo" twice. Once it held, and once it shook loose when the bow recoiled. Looks as if "Goop" would be the strongest of those. Will it peel off the bow the way Shoe Goo will?

3M ATG Transfer Tape. I've used it for mounting all sorts of stuff and it holds solid in all sorts of weather. Super sticky, super thin, and just rolls off with your thumb when when you wish to remove it with no damage at all to the finish.
It's still holding the leather shelf and arrow plate on my selfbow after 14 years of hunting and shooting.

Stick the foam tape on the sight arms where the metal touches the wood and then use electrical tape to attach it to the bow. You wrote that it is temporary and the electrical tape will hold the sight on and won't harm the finish. Use to be done that way in the 60's only they didn't have the foam type tape back them so they used rubber washer for spacers.

3M industrial strength double sided tape. I have two elevated rests on two bows that have been on for over ten years. Go to bows for my wife and I, the only two we shoot.

Dan in MI is the guy to see about this. A while ago he asked for people to test a product he was using for this very thing.

I've used 3M for a few things with no problem.
By the way, it's a sight, not a site.

I use "carpet tape". Used to hold the carpet liner to the floor. Thin and hold great. Never had anything come loose.

This is what I use. We have a ceramic lizard taped to the outside wall in the sun for two years now. He shows no sign of falling off. Not sure about this product in the cold? I learned this from a thread here.

E6000 if you want glue. Gorilla 2 sided black for tape. Noticed gorilla 2 sided clear is kinda rubbery.

So you archers that are using just the foam type tape or carpet tape and nothing else says the sight bar don't move when it is on the bow?

Thanks for your information, folks. Has anyone used "Amazing Goop" for this type of thing? Is it stronger than the other similar liquid adhesives such as Shoe Goo, e6000, etc.?

oldnewby,
All I can tell you is these types of adhesive have good resistance to lateral shear (think gravity pulling on the sight frame). If you run a light bead or dot around the edge of the sight plate, press firmly without squishing and allow 24 hours to fully cure I would be surprised if it did not work.
I use Gorilla clear as my fletching adhesive; before that E6000. I do not get tear-offs, ever, even on stump pass throughs, yet I can peel the feather and glue off with a fingernail and the shaft underneath is pristine.

Guys -
The 3M stuff works pretty well, as do the others mentioned, but so do most "store brands", providing they're fresh and haven't dried out. And, without adequate prep, none will work.
Sometimes, I think we really need to have the word "best" removed form out vocabularies. It does more for the retailers than the consumers.
Jon S -
Have to be careful here. With a vintage tape on or screw on sight, any foam double stick should be more than adequate. If you're talking about a modern Olympic sight, with most of the weight well forward of the mount, nothing is going to work.
Viper out.

viper, I have a box full of new/old stock bow sights from the 60's. Left over from the archery shop. Archers either screwed them to the bow or taped them to the bow to avoid screw holes. I am just curious if these guys are putting the tape on the sight arms and sticking it to the bow or using this tape they are discussing on the site arm to the bow AND using tape to secure it to the bow SO if the site gets bumped, and it will, it doesn't move.
