I am thinking about using seal skin for an arrow rest and side plate. Skin is tanned, so any ideas about what type of glue to use. I want to be able to change it some time. I am in Canada so no issues with seal products in the US.
Thanks,
Rick

Thanks. Can contact cement be cleaned off without damaging the wood underneath?

Aromakr is right. Any contact cement. And Barge Cement is a brand of contact cement.

You can usually rub the old rubber cement with your fingers and ball it all up, then just pick it off clean with no damage to the finish. I just did it yesterday on a Horne's Ridge runner I'm refinishing.

What Pearl Drums said. Easiest to clean up and will hold nearly any material you want to use. Do not use fletching cement or any other cement that will need to be sanded or cleaned with acetone.

Barge cement is just a brand name for contact cement. You can get a bottle of it at Walmart for less than $5.00...I think it's the Dep brand.

The thing about contact cement is that it will work on just about any material and any riser. It will also work well with a leather grip application, even with wet leather. It's been used for those purposes in archery forever. I wouldn't use anything but that since it's so easy to remove. Last rest I took off I rolled the leftover glue off with my thumb. And one bottle will last you years if you keep the lid on quickly after using it.

I've used sealskin on a couple of bows. Barge Cement or other rubber cement. Apply thin coats on skin and on bow, let it dry a little, apply carefully because it will resist repositioning.

Contact cement and rubber cement are two completely different materials, barge is contact. rubber cement will not last, and will come off easily. you want contact cement.

Bob's probably right. Get Barge, accept no substitutes :-)

Contact cement it is. This is the first time trying this with seal skin. Another question - do you shave the hair down to say 1/8 or do you leave it at the length it is?

All my different rests and side plates are stuck on with Barge cement. The Barge lets me change rests as needed or to play around with different rests and switch back.

Barge or Duco Contact cement are my first choice, Shoe Goo is second, and double sided tape comes in last for that application.

Pressure glue was made for this. Like on velcro or double sided tape. Spread on the material, let it dry and press in place. Peel it off when done.

Walmart or your craft store will have small tubes of E6000. It's a one part glue. I have glued on several side plates and it holds like iron. They offer clear and black.
