Just like Christmas, opening day only comes once a year, and that day is tomorrow for me! I don't know exactly, but it has been at least 24 years (probably 25 or more) straight opening days for me.

I haven't touched the property for at least 3 weeks now, so I'm hoping for some dumb, uneducated bucks tomorrow. We've had lots of rain that has filled up all the low spots. I'm hoping we've had enough rain to re-create some of the natural funnels on the property. Weather forecast is for an unusually low August high temp of 89 F. - high humidity though. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a light rain early to even things out.

Wish you the best of luck ! Our Archery season doesn’t open till the end of September, but we are having a 3 day buck only Archery only hunt in two weeks for the first time. I went out yesterday and hung a few lock on stands . I can’t wait !

Being from the North, I am surprised that your season opens so early down South. I would think it would open later and stay open later in hopes of a little cooler weather. Maybe you guys are lucky and it opens earlier and stays open later than most. Good luck and find your deer fast in that warm weather.

08-15 till 01-01 in the lower half of SC. Rifle season opens in a couple of game zones today. I'm gonna give it a go this evening. Early season morning hunts have never produced well for me. A late afternoon thunderstorm that cools things off and subsided an hour before dark gets the deer and hogs up and moving this time of year.

Good luck Lowcountry. I still have over a month to wait.

Good luck! With those kind of temperatures I would rather go fishing that area again.

In Texas, we start this year on 9-29-18. SEC home football weekends and deer hunting can present daunting conflicts for me.

It is just un-American to hunt deer when there is still a whole month of summer to go. I would stay home and refuse to hunt until it gets cooler outside. Or maybe try to take a buck still in velvet. Never done that before.

Looking South is a big bay 75 yards away. More rain and this funnel shrinks a little, but it forces the deer more toward my tree.

It was hot, humid, and the skeeters were as advertised and as bad as I have ever seen them there. I've been in the backwoods of Minnesota in the summer, so I know how bad mosquitos can really be. I have never claimed our skeeters can compare with those northern skeeters, but I'll tell you what, it was pretty damn close today. They were TERRIBLE. BTW, it was hot and humid too.

Anyway, pretty much nothing happened until 7:52 when a little yearling materialized out of nothing to my right. Ended up seeing three yearlings, with a couple frolicking under me for a couple of minutes 10-15 feet away.

Successful and fun hunt, even though I never loosed an arrow. I was soaked by the time I got back to the truck. Did I mention it was HOT and HUMID? Temp was supposed to be 88 F, but I guarantee the heat index was pushing 95 F.
