I want to make a free-standing "on-the floor" arrow storage "rack" using five 20" lengths of 2" PVC pipe.

I'm envisioning possibly a 2x6 or 2x8 section as the base, and then some how attaching the pipe upright so the arrows will stand in the pipe.

Can some of you brilliant DIY Wallers give me some help/guidance? Like how to attach the pipes to the wood base? How to make the pipes solid steady above the base? What tools I may need? Your ideas for a design etc.

I do not have a woodshop nor any bench power tools like a miter saw, drill press, band saw, etc. Just basic hand tools and a cordless drill. I'm not experienced with attaching and building with PVC pipe, but can probably view a YouTube video to get the basics of doing that.

Let me know what you can, and thank you in advance for any input and knowledge you send my way.

Shoot 'em straight.

Regards. WMM

Take a sheet of plywood say 6" wide by however long you want. Take the flat caps to fit pvc, glue or screw them into the plywood base evenly spaced. Cut foam to put inside the pvc cap as a "cushion" for the arrows. Insert lengths of pvc into the caps so they now stand vertical and use pvc cement so they stay. You now have an arrow holder, make as long with as many different tubes as desired.

I made one using a paper tube. The kind fishing rods or longbows are shipped in. Cut them off nice and square, then run a big bead of caulk or glue around the edge and press down on the base. I make the base from a piece of paneling or flooring material. Don’t use until the glue has dried. It’s not pretty, but works fine.

Cut a wood circle the diameter of the inside of the pvc tube then stick it in the bottom of the tube and attach it in with screws from the side. I would use at least a 1 inch board so you have something to screw to.That will give you something to screw the pvc tube to from the bottom.

I used a spade bit and drilled about 3/4 through then glued them in. You can drill through a piece of wood then fasten a piece on the bottom whatever size you need. Bottom is the base for arrows the top piece is the support for the tubes. Or Glue plugs in the ends then screw the base to them. Just some ideas. I usually don't start with a plan just what ever seems to be working. >>>---> Ken

Here is an alternative, if the photos work. I'm computer-challenged!

Can be done with simple hand tools and some gorilla glue. A 2'x4' drop-ceiling light grid, cut into 4, 1' pieces and some outside corner trim. A piece of scrap paneling or luaun for the bottom, covered with a piece of scrap fabric to keep the "clank" to a minimum.

Mine are like Rough Run’s. Scrap wood and a couple of those lenses. Trouble I found is each one will hold up tp 100+ arrows. So what you saved on a rack I made up for trying to fill those racks!! But the PVC tube idea is great as well. Seems like the “cost” would be the PVC caps. Sometimes at the home store they have cutoffs of wood or plywood at reduced price.

Here is what my wife did for me. I think you could just attach screws to secure the bast to the wood. I just let my free stand. Best of luck with your project.

As Jon does but would go with inch and half just to beef up a little..course I'm dealing with jr hi kids and they are "rough" on things. I use 2x6 base(makes a base 5.5" by 5,5" and olds up in wind a little better. Sack

Try this with a flat base cross an end.

I've got 250 arrows in cardboard tubes in 5gal buckets. Simple, free, easily moved.

I like Dan's idea for grouping arrows for spine and length. I believe the op was referring to something to hold arrows while shooting. >>>----> Ken

I used to have yardage marked in my yard. @ each marked yardage i used a mallet and drove pvc pipe into the ground to drop my arrows in while i shot. I used 2ft long x 3in pipe. Worked great.

For shooting I have a #10 can mounted on two sticks (.5 x 1 x 20)about 20" tall. The sticks are mounted to base of 1 x 4 (or 6) the base has four 16 penny nails through. set it where you want it and step on the 1x. Lift up and move it if needed with no effort.

Not PVC but a neat idea, similar to Rough Run's photo. This was from a 1967 article by CR Learn in Bow and Arrow Magazine.
