I am getting my basement sill plate spray foam insulated and while he's there I was considering making up some boxes to have him fill up. Does anybody have experience doing this?

There was a thread a year or two ago where guys were using foam in 5 gallon buckets for targets. Seemed to work very well for them.

Great stuff will stop an arrow but it doesn't seem to last that long, and great stuff is not cheap stuff.

I made a video where I compared the different materials offered.

They work fine as long as you let them dry well.

It's not great stuff it's the stuff sprayed in commercially for insulation. Looking for an easy way to make some targets to throw in the woods

There are a few diffent types of commercial spray foams used for insulation. The stuff they're going to spray is probably a closed cell material and is more dense than most open cell stuff that comes in can. The closed cell dries hard & makes a better backstop than target. And yes, the stuff is expensive. Probably not the best but it wouldn't hurt to ask the contractor.

May dry on the outside but remain gloppy for weeks on the inside so mess up arrows..did for me...if it's free it will waste your time.

Look at *very compressed straw* from Tractor supply. Weighs a ton, will stop everything...much smaller than common straw bales that arrows blow through. Wrap with trash bags to protect from rain.

Just got a bag target from Wally, $49 ...about half the normal price plus free delivery (was on sale...check Wally's webpages).

Great stuff takes a long time to cure, the thicker it is.You can't be in a hurry to use it.A good target that doesn't take long to make,is a burlap sack fill it with crushed milk containers and plastic the heavier type.Stuff the plastic strips on top of the containers then sew the end with fishing ling.I used fireline for mine. Then you can hang it up or prop it up to shoot at,I've used target heads only not broadheads.

I had target that I bought made from cardboard and chicken wire core and sprayed with foam insulation. It resembled a very large pillow about 4' X 5' and maybe a foot or so thick.

Worked pretty good as a backstop but needed to be covered up or stored inside to avoid sunlight degradation. Could be re-foamed but I ended up leaving it behind during a move.

Recently like back in April I had a bag of this I got at Home Depot and told many to try and fill their worn sections of 3d targets. Its usually in the cement isle but check your local HD before you go looking for it and cost when we got it was around $9.45 a bag. So I soaped up a Lowes 5 gallon bucket and put a piece of copper wire in the center of bucket and made a coil about 3 " so I could pull it out when dry.I went to grab the wire after several minutes when it expanded and it was "HOT" So I put a digital temperature gauge in it and it got 285 degrees and cured in about 15 minutes .Here is the liquid foam in a bag and no tools needed to mix it. Just think of All the stuff you can do with it folks.

Forgot to mention I made a loop from the wire hanging out of the top after it mushroomed above the bucket about 4 " and sort of resembles a expansion water tank like under your house when cured. I put some string through the wire loop to hang from a tree branch or whatever you wish so you could shoot it. I have it in my shop and it is a decent cheap target and stopped my arrows with out passing through. I haven't taken it out in the woods yet to give it a really good work out but will someday soon. Now when you go to pull out of a 5 gallon bucket use a long flat piece of metal to just slide between wall of soaped up bucket and foam that cured and start pulling on the copper wire if you make one that way. Hope you like it and I am sure your kids will love it especially if you spray dots of different colors on it.
