I was wondering if any of you have or know where to get the dimensions of the normally available, traditional, glue-on nocks (Bohning, BJ, etc). I've been using Bohning in both 11/32 and 5/16" sizes on my wood arrows. I am making 16 strand BCY- X strings with the (?) thicker Halo serving and my nocks (especially the 5/16" ones on my tapered arrows) are loose. Fine for targets (split finger shooter here) but I would like to get them to snap on a bit better for hunting, and I will be making a new round of wood arrows for the season. Anyway, help with actual dimensions of nocks that are available for me to purchase would be great. Thanks, Matt

Matt, get some water barely boiling, stick the nocks in it and squeeze them tighter while they are still warm, they will stay where you leave them and snap tight.

I would just use dental floss to built a fit on the serving. You want a soft but good fit with the nock...not necessarily a 'snap' on fit.

I've used the T Nocks on arrows for guys that have the extra skinny strings, they seem to have a slightly tighter throat then the Classic Nocks. The T Nock doesn't have the little "index bump" like on the Classic Nock.

I have tried the teflon tape under the serving and it worked fine for a couple of weeks and then the soft teflon crushed down. I have also tried double serving, and it works IF!!! the sizes are compatible. I may try flossing over the serving, because I understand that just making my serving fit the Bohning nocks that I have a zillion of would be the best thing. Also, does anyone have a diagram or video of "padding" the string with extra strands of string material under the serving? I can think of several ways to do it, but I want to know how someone who has been successful has done it. I'm looking for a solution that will be consistent, easy, and will last as long as a fast flight string does (350 years???). If nothing else works, I will just heat and fit my nocks. I don't like this solution, although I have done it A LOT and I know it works. Thanks, Matt

One more thing. The Bohning nocks appear to be about .110" and my Gold Tip nocks are .100" in the open part of the slot. It sure would be nice if I could have some honest traditional (glue on to wood) nocks that were the same. I have to shoot the soulless carbons at 3-D shoots so I have a chance at another buckle. (no complaint, I won in the soulless recurve class at the best shoot in the USA a couple weeks ago). It sure would be nice if I knew a brand of glue-on nocks that was the same as GT nocks.

Use a larger serving material, its not rocket science!! If you can't find a larger serving material, use a BRAIDED fishing line just compare the size to what your using.

If the fit is close wrap some Teflon tape on the string and serve over it, that should get you that extra bit to take up the slop.

You can reserve your string The way to test how tight they should be is they should just clip on your string and a tap of your finger on the string should release it holding your bow pointing to the ground As I never use commercial knocks it's of no consequence to me.All my bone and reinforced self knocks are made to fit my strings from the start.I would hesitate in heating plastic knocks and pinching them. I reckon if you bent one ear of the knock more than the other you could cause irratic arrow flight.Cutting your own self knocks is critical .Plastic or self knock must be always in perfect alignment for best accuracy.Just reserve or build that knocking part of your serving OSR

Like aromakr said get the proper size serving for the best and easiest fix. I find 3 sizes cover the spectrum for me. That is until I tried a low stretch skinny string. I padded the serving with 5 strands of B55. Here is a time saving tip. try the padding/or the serving size of choice. Make 6+ tight wraps of the serving material, just hold by hand, and test nocks. Adjust the serving size or padding up or down as needed. You can quickly find the right combo. Good luck and enjoy the trip. >>>----> Ken

I would like to be able to get nocks with the same throat size for both my wood and carbon arrows. Do y'all change strings when you change arrows?

This sport is really getting complicated.

Rather than changing strings, messing with nocks, etc. Just shoot wood all the time. Done deal. Wood, Fiberglass, aluminum....use the same nock on all of them.

heat and pinch. I heat them in hot water and then pinch them around the string and take them off and put them on a few times. I repeat if need be until I have the fit I want.

MattB, I use 5/16 or 11/32 nocks on everything. The difference in the throat of the nock between those 2 is irrelevant in my experience.
