Can those of you who bought a new k4 comment on it now that you have had it for a while ? I don't see them coming up for sale they must be liked .

I am interested in this too. I just got one of the new "Kodiak" and love it, thinking of a K4 also.

I haven't heard of them selling very many.

I just got one. Bear suggests only using B50 on it. The first thing I did was take that bungee cord off the bow and put a 10 strand BCYX on it. Night and day difference. Prior to that I wouldn't give you a nickel for it, the string changed that completely. Its not fast, but steady and powerful. It has a very smooth draw cycle with the straight reflexed limbs and a very unique tiller and design, very wood bow like. The leather grip that came on the bow was super cheezy, I peeled it off and I stitched a new one on it that is long enough and doesn't over lap in front, I don't like that on my bows. I like the bow a lot, its well made, but not nearly a $600 bow. Look for used if you want one.

There's a long wait to get one if that tells you anything

I shot one at ETAR, and came away with the same comments as Pearl Drums. I have been mainly selfbow for the last several years and was able to stack all 6 arrows from my quiver in the red dot right from jump street. The B50 does not show the bow in a good light. I talked to the old bear guy, and he said they never tested it with any other string. They should sell it with a low stretch string IMHO. Cool looker and could see killing a ton of deer from a treestand with one.

I can’t say about the new one, but my brother really likes his 1952 K-4. He put a D97 string on it and that made a big difference.

I have been curious about them as well. I always liked the lines of those bows and was thinking about do a copy of one before Bear did the re intro. So I went to ETAR with the hope of shooting a demo. And I got my chance. I hoped I would find something negative about it so I could stop wanting one and save my money. Unfortunately I couldn't find a thing wrong with the bow, other than the leather on the grip as mentioned above. The draw was smooth even with my long draw, there was no hand shock, and it was very pleasant to shoot. It was no speed demon but seemed to have decent speed, especially with B50. I don't think you will see many used ones for sale for quite a while.

The new K4 is nice, I've shot it several times, but I have 3 vintage K4s that I love so am having trouble rationalizing a new one. I run 14 strand D97 strings on my bows. They shoot a heavy arrow (10-11 GPP) with stability and accuracy, plenty fast enough for me, with no bounce or buzz on the shot, just a crisp clean release.

There is one for sale on TAS Classifieds, 45lb for $400. It went up in May but I believe it has not sold yet.

I don't see it now--must have sold. I shot one at ETAR and liked it very much--maybe too much! :o)

We finally got two into the shop and I had to test drive one. Since these are new bows I couldn't take a chance on changing the string and violating warranty. I certainly agree with the heavy arrow recommendation and I find the string recommendations very tempting.

I like the way they draw and the look is very old school.

You could buy those old ones all day for 150 2 years ago so we shot a lot of them they shoot ok for me but nothing I’d want to shoot regularly. My question is are the new ones pretty much the same as the old ones

On the aluminum lam K4: Here is a good look at the lay-up. This is the idea submitted for the patent of the Composite Recurve Bow. Since this model was the first quality bow I owned as a kid in the early 60's, I can report the hand shock others claim. Paul

I really like mine

From: GLF

Love mine but had to get new arrows even tho it close to same weight as most my bows because its cut no where near center.

From: Ron LaClair
Date: 15-Oct-18

The new K-4 is a remake of the old 1952 bow. Like the 1959 remakes Bears bows were not cut to center and the leather grip overlapped. That's the way they were and that's how they are now. Now if they would bring back the 1957 Kodiak that would be great.

I could not resist the new offering either. Bear did a real good job covering all the elements of the original. The one I have shares the same shooting characteristics as the originals too. So, no risk to the historic survivors.
