When you fletch primitive arrows with stone points. Do you put the feathers on a helical twist? Or just straight fletch them?

I like a little helical on my self nock bamboo and cane arrows but not much experience with stone points yet.>>>---> ken

I tie my feathers on with tread or sinew from front to back ,and it makes a natural spiral twist as i tie towards the knock.Look nice and spin when you shoot them.

The point used doesn't dictate which way the feathers need to be, Its still just a point like any of them from any material. If you like straight, use it. If you like helical, use it.

I don't think there will be a nickels worth of difference no matter how you fletch them.

Helical will create more drag than straight, for whatever that may be worth to you and your set up.

I understand I think and think that offset straight looks more appropriate with my stone point arrows. I just offset a straight jig enough to get the most quill on the shaft. I make quite a few to give as trophies and prizes at our shoots.

I used (with trade points, not stone) but do not anymore. Jawge

Tied on with natural sinew, slight offset. It's easier, for me.

Maybe I should of asked for a few pictures...

Helical will make the dynamic spine act a little stiffer.

Norman Blaker is an expert when it comes to making and shooting primitive bows and arrows. As to whether helical, offset or straight fletching is best with a stone point, look at the picture, he likes offset. He also affixes his fletching with sinew at both ends, but not glued down. It also looks like the point is oriented vertically with the string.

Another pic to show stone point/nock.

Fine Looking ARROW! I don't think that the AMER-INDIANS worried about helical or such! They just wanted the arrow to hit the mark! JUST SAYIN'

BATMAN, you’re probably right, they needed to eat, so they couldn’t miss!

Elderly OCR - Interesting aspect, “different tribes”. I want to know more about that.

The easiest, and in my mind most effective is straight offset. You don't NEED helical at all. The feather will naturally take on an offset orientation due to the curve of the feather. Makes it simple to fletch by hand that way,
