Picked up a new longbow the other day. It is a darkness r/d 68# at 28" (my draw is 30 3/4") it is cut past center so that should make tuning a little easier. I have some 300 spine arrows at the house with 100 grain inserts. I'm hoping I can get them to tune. Open to reccomendations though.

I think if I were to draw that kind of weight, I might have to have my spine replaced!

LOL

Sorry - couldn't help myself.

Outta my league, though. If you're lucky, somebody like Rick Barbee will chime in, seeing as he's shot a lot of heavies over the years... And he shoots pretty OK, too...

Amount of centershot? String type? Have to realize all the gozintos to make an intelligent guess. ;)

I think an 1/8th past center. The string is bcyx.

I have been shooting a recurve in the low 60's for awhile and the longbow feels to have a more smooth/easier draw than the recurve I have been shooting.

That is far over my weight and draw length. In the ballpark though. Should be close enough to get you there with weight point changes. Then decide where you need to go in spine if the point weight is not what you want. I would give it a shot.>>--> Ken

Search for Stu Miller's dynamic spine calculator. It is easy to use and always got me very close.

300s sound about right to me. Give them a try. I hope it's a long longbow with your draw length, finger pinch can become a problem.

I'm thinking those 300's with the 100 grain inserts should work out. You'll most likely have a little room to load the front to tune them.

If you go with carbon shafts be sure you get heavy ones, not the lighter .300s intended for compound bows. Longbows do better with heavy arrows. They are about power more than speed. Those long limbs can only accelerate so fast.

It might be better to go with aluminum shafts, like 2217, 2219 or something beginning with 23. I have shot longbows that heavy but with wooden arrows so am not sure about aluminum ones. Those sizes would be comparable to heavy wooden arrows.

Kindly let us know how it goes, with pix. We'd like to see your set up, and also see what you look like. Did you play tight end? How tall are you in boots and hat? 7 feet? - lbg

Seems to like .300 spine 32" goldtips at 10.9gpi woth the 100gn inserts and 145 tips. Bareshaft showing a little weak but they are flying good. As far as what I look like. Not quite 7ft. (More like 6'1") my armspan is 76" though fingertip to fingertip. I guess my arms are too long for my heigth. Should be a good arrow weight somewhere around 650 grains total weight.

Here you go longbowguy. Set timer on phone, looks like it took the pic almost at my anchor point.

Here's a couple arrows at 20yds. One is a field point and the other is a single bevel phathead. Still have a little fine tuning to do.

Beautiful bow like that paired with pink arrows. Sigh.

Kidding aside, that looks like some serious shooting. ;-)
