Absolutely Batman. While I LOVE the challenge and appeal of trying to tame extremely snakey osage bows so they behave as well as a well-made straight one, straight ones can be almost as endearing. My #1 osage selfbow, Lioness, is as straight as any glass bow. And she's a friggin' straight up bloodthirsty killer.
I have grade A #1 perfectly clear plain, rift, and quarter sawn osage in the form of dimensional lumber that I use for bamboo and hardwood backed bows, risers, glass bow lams and such... plus I have perfectly straight osage staves for selfbows and sinew backed bows, and I have some of the snakiest osage staves you've ever seen. And it's ALL equally appealing to me, depending on the mood I'm in when the urge to make a bow strikes me.
I've been getting the urge lately to go cut some more osage trees. That's a very enjoyable and optimistic part of bow making.
Osage friggin ROCKS dude!

Arvin, some people might tell you they are a bit wide for osage but you can tell them you won the broadhead flight challenge with that style.

I have one of Arvins bows. It is straight as a string except for the reflexed tips. Not a pin knot or a crook,on it. 44 @ 29" 69" long and a fast flight string. It is so slick and delicate looking I was afraid to string it. He just laughed at me and said " I don't build them to look at." >>>----> Ken

I've made straight osage bows and I've made crooked ones too. Straight ones are easier to make than crooked ones but crooked ones are more fun to make. Jawge

Jawge you can make good bows from crooked staves. Easier maybe. If you take a crooked one and make it straight is sometimes a s big a challenge. Why cause you can. Just like making a crooked stave into a bow. Arvin

I buy as straight as I can afford, usually just a little twist and a few wiggles.
