There were only 2 things that were going to keep me from attending ETAR this year; my untimely demise or the car acting up again. Sooooo, since I’m obviously typing this out, you know it’s gotta be the car! Took it in Thursday. Had an oil change and had it checked (again) before the trip. Well. I left Seattle at 6AM today, got within 75 miles of Spokane and the check engine light came on (again). I turned around at a no U-turn state patrol spot and headed back home, light on all the way! I figured better to have something bad happen near home than in Montana or elsewhere. Going in on Monday to the dealer and I don’t think they’re going to like me. What really bums me is that I was looking forward to meeting some of you guys and showing you how bad I can shoot! Maybe next year. Might have a different vehicle if this is going to continue to drive me, and the dealer, nuts. I hope that whoever is going has a really good time. Maybe a few of you can lose an arrow in my honor. Thanks for listening. Lance

I will also be missing Denton this year. It is my favorite event but family health issues will keep me at home. I hope the weather is great and everyone there has a great safe event.

We'll catch you next year Bud. Cars can be a real pain in the arse, especially nowadays whey there isn't much you can do yourself to fix them. Keep the faith and give them holy-heck at the dealership.

That’s a real bummer. Had a Chevy that did that to us. Mine turned out to be the PC board that controls about everything. New ones were very pricey so we drove that junk box with the lite on until we could afford a used part. I am hoping to make at least one of those big shoots before I cash it in. Just meeting people with like interest wants me to be there.

That's too bad. Although my check engine light has been on for 5 years now. doesn't always mean something is wrong. But better safe than sorry! hope it works out well for you.

9 times out of 10'it is the oxygen sensor located on the catalytic converter. About a 200.00 part depending on dual or single exhaust. Take it to a good smallbshopband save money over a dealership. Sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip.

You can get a plug in analyzer at Walmart for less than $100. That will give you all of the codes that shows what is wrong when the check engine light comes on. bvd

His car doesn't even have 60,000 miles on it so the converter should be fine. That same indication will come up if your gas fill cover is loose, or not sealing correctly.

Get a code reader & fix it or try to fix it yourself or have one of your buddies help you.My daughter took her car to the dealership for a filter & oil change. The tech pulled or loosened other parts while it was in the bay. Her check engine light came on and she took it to a local service shop in town. They asked her where she had her car worked on,then they told her what they found. Not that all dealerships are dishonest hopefully yours isn't. Best of luck with your car trouble.

I just got a call from my mechanic. The Explorer is in need of several parts. I said do what you gotta do, I'm going to Denton!

My check engine light is on intermittently, Mechanic says it is the fuel sensor inside the tank that is supposed to monitor the mixture because it is a Flexfuel vehicle and the sensor just gets a bad reading sometimes depending on where I buy my gas. Also as stated above by George D Stout , always make sure your gas cap is tightened to the proper amount. A loose or defective gas cap will give you fits trying to find that problem, and leaves you open to shady mechanics that will give you a long list of parts that you need. I had to miss ETAR last year because of a heart attack and open heart surgery, and will have to miss the event again this year.

If you have your own plug in analyzer, you can tell if it is your gas cap or not, or any other problem for that matter. bvd

A small piece of electrical tape over the check engine light also works.
