A buddy just got a Robertson Peregrine and wants me to replace the grip on it. I am looking for some elk leather or some kind of really soft grippy leather for the job, he was thinking yellow, gold, or dark saddle colored grip. Any of you bowyers have a good source for elk or other leather you might recommend? It seems hard to find just small pieces, everywhere I have found only sells whole hides. I’m just looking for a couple small pieces or like 1sq ft at most. Thanks

Well, you don't want grippy, unless you want torque.

Patrick, if you live in a rural area, you may have a second hand tack shop or a consignment shop that sells used horse or ranch supplies. I picked up some used leather chaps for a few bucks and turned them into a lifetime supply of grips. My area of PA can't be the only place that has these kind of shops. Hope this helps. Jim

Patrick,

if you have a local Orthotic / Prosthetic fabrication business near by give them a call and ask if they have any lining leather off cuts. They're usually delighted to pass on some of their off cuts to a good cause

Upholstery leather works great and comes in all colores. Just the right thickness for grips.

Get on the Tandy Leather web sight. They have nearly any kind of leather you may want.

And what Bowmania said.
