Hello, I need a new string for my Black Widow PLIV which is 62" and 44@28. I am torn between trying either a SBD or a Ten Rings string. What string would you recomend?

Either man makes good strings. If you want a “skinny” string then SBD it is. I use and have strings from both gentlemen. Lately I have been getting endless loop strings made with BCY X from Chad at LBR as well. I don’t have a Widow anymore. But if I did I would give a “skinny” string a try. Always wanted to see how much performance you could get out of that bow.

I like 10 ring. Good size servings and great string. The sbd I had was too skinny for me. Both are great strings though.

10 ring

Well, there are others as well who make great strings. Our own Barry Hughes who goes by stilldub on here and on Ebay. And, they are quite affordable for either Dacron, Fastflight Plus or BCY-X strings...and they are high quality. I also have one from Bayou Traditional Archery made of Fury...15 strands in body, and 24 strands in loops. It's a superb string that I can find no faults with. They are out of Longville, LA.

10 Ring no doubt.

I've had both. 10 Ring strings are the only string i buy now.

I'm a big fan of 10 ring, it's all I shoot. I've never tried SBD.

10ring is the way to go. All my bows have 10 ring strings none better.

Thank you all for your advice. I guess what I have to do know is figure out what color to get the string. Thanks again

I tried a 10 ring and never could get that bow to tune, all SBD for me.

Tastes great! Less filling! Oh, never mind...thought this was a beer commercial.

SBD

From: LightPaw
Date: 12-Jul-18

Both high quality products, likely comes down to personal preference and what the bow would prefer.

From: westrayer
Date: 12-Jul-18

Check with BW to see what material they recommend. Several companies are getting away from BCY-X and recommending D97/ FF+.

From: hunterbob
Date: 12-Jul-18

On my widows I prefer the D97 . Widow strings are nice . But I have been making my own lately .

From: dallsheepstkr

SBD skinny Strings on all my recurves. Easy to tune, quiet and gets the most potential energy from limbs.

From: Shooter
Date: 12-Jul-18

I shoot BWs and other bows and have tried the skinny strings.

I have decided to stick with DF97.

Life to short at my age to be chasing strings that add little to maybe no notable performance gains. So i keep things simple now days.

I’ve used both, and they are both great strings, but I really prefer the strings from Jim Neaves at Centaur Archery, a lot faster delivery also...ordered one last week on Tuesday night and had it on Friday...his Navajo silencers are also the bomb...!!!

I have both and they are both great strings. My PSAX has a SBD string any it shoots fantastic. My Bighorns have Ten Rings and they shoot fantastic. Mater vs Tater... Try both and see which you like best...

Arkie when I was searching for custom strings I wanted one made with Rhino.Jim Neaves was the only one I could find.I cotacted him and he put me in touch with Tim and Tricia Gardner who make the strings for him. They no longer offer Rhino but I ordered one of their BCY-X strings anyway. They're great strings nice folks to do biz with and I had it on my JD Berry Argos in just a few days.

Both great strings built by great people. Buy one of each. You need a backup anyway. Then u can make your own decision.

I have had both and both are great. I really like the adjustable double nocking points that came on my 10 ring stings.

Both make a great string! After 35 years of shooting Flemish strings I have recently converted to an endless loop archer. I never realized how different they were, besides looks.

Wayne Hess, your string was shipped on 7/13. Looks like it will arrive to you tomorrow.

If I still had a Widow I'd use a Mt Muffler by Steve Baker for obvious reasons. Maybe that's not obvious to everyone - noise.

But it's not one of the choices. Of the two I'd lean a little to SBD. But just for performance reasons. I use an SBD on my longbow to get the most out of it, but on that same longbow for whitetails I use a 10 Ring.
