Question. Is the KY Land Between the lakes at Energy lake camp grounds. In planning for this coming fall. I don't think it happened last year. I'm interested in coming if it is happening. Thanks

Energy lake campground is in the LBL.

I ment is there going to be a Trad hunt week /weekend put together for this season? Yes LBL Land Between the Lakes.

Every time I remember hunting at LBL many years ago when I lived near there, I remember the horrible episode with seed ticks I had. I thought my feet and ankles were covered in grass seeds-- -until I noticed they were moving! Oh what misery for several days.

my first trip to LBL. when i showed up at camp there were guys sitting around the camp with duct tape wrapped sticky side out on their pant legs, covered with ticks.

Andy, check with Randy Grider. He hosted the last few camps/hunts.

LBL is an very interesting area. I know this from people I’ve spoken with who have camped and hunted there.

What is a seed tick?

From: grizz
Date: 10-Jul-18

Very small, tiny ticks. About the size of ground black pepper. And you never get a few or dozen or so, you get hundreds. Miserable, evil little creatures.

Are there still fallow deer there to hunt?

THE FALLOW DEER herd has not recovered enough if you see one your lucky. Gary

Are they what they call deer ticks?

From: Jimmy Blackmon
Date: 14-Jul-18

It's tough hunting. Public land here gets hit hard so you will have to hump. Beautiful place with a lot of relatively flat space. You will have fun, but know there is a lot of pressure. Pappy knows this area better than anyone I know.

Oh, and what is your question? A Google search revealed...

An inlet separated from the rest of Lake Barkley by Energy Dam, Energy Lake in Land Between The Lakes is a quiet spot with loads of potential for campers. ... Canoe rentals are available in season, and lakeview and wooded campsites are equipped with electrical hookups, meaning they can accommodate RVs and campers.

What do you want to know/

Permethrin is your friend when hunting where the seed ticks/deer ticks/turkey mites/whatever name you choose, lives. My friend got into them in Central KY last year and had to have shots and a bath soak, and lotion to apply to clear them up. His legs swelled and he got downright sick from them. LBL has had them for 40 years that I know of but they have just got into the central part of the state the last few years. My farm is more to the south in the state and as of now, there are none there. Hope it stays that way. They are about the size of this . except there will be hundreds of them usually.

Kevin Brown and i were given a wyoming hunt last fall that we just couldnt pass up , which is why the LBL hunt didnt happen. Barring any unforseen catastrophies, we plan to hit it the week before statewide gun deer season opens. Around last week of oct or first week of nov. contacting Kevin now to nail down a date. I have hunted LBL for years, but have never experienced the seed tick, but never hunt early season, always waiting for rut time.

We are thinking nov 2- nov 9. Friday -friday. How does that sound ? We camp at Energy Lake, first loop on the right. We will try and be there, but feel free to gather with or without us. Sometimes Kevin gets a little rank, you may not want to camp too close ! ???? everyone responsible for all their own expenses, reservations, etc. Bring what you like, no one so far has ever starved on one of these trips, in spite of miserable harvest rates. Have not had trouble with too much hunting pressure, the vastness of LBL gives plenty of options. I do not gurrantee a utopia of deer hunting, populations have been pretty lackluster, and you are limited to one deer, which comes off your statewide tag, not bonus deer like it used to be. Dont think im trying to discourage anyone, just want to be honest. Regardless, the campground interactions with other stickbow hunters is well worth the price of admission. Hope to see a bunch of you guys there .

I plan on hunting LBL at that time and all through the rest of the season there if I don't kill out earlier...I will be down on the TN side, 43rd straight year bowhunting there...the week after the first quota gun hunt is good if a person can't make the earlier dates....

I made a run through LBL y'day evening, TN side....soybeans in most of the fields here this year, with some corn planted in the fields off the secondary roads. Saw lots of deer munching on beans in the fields...

I would recommend hunting there the first of November till the day before the first quota gun hunt if you are interested in a bruiser buck. Bowhunting stops the day before the quota gun hunts and reopens the day after the 2 day gun hunts...43rd straight year bowhunting there, I live next door to LBL, TN side...

Im pretty excited about hunting LBL this year, took a hiatus last year, for the first in many, but will be back this year for the PBS hunt in septemeber, and the KTBA gathering in November. Never done an early season hunt there, but I'm ready to give it a shot.
