Came home tonight to find that storms took out one of my Crerry trees. Will Cherry make a good self bow?

Thanks fdp .Any preferred limb design ? I'm thinking something fairly long wide and flat. I'm aware that different woods work better with different designs but I'm not sure about Cherry.

You are right. I'm a fan of longer wider limbs any way. For a 28" draw make it about 66" and about 1.75 to 2" wide and then let the tillering tell you where to stop.
Or better yet use badgers nas tillering technique.

Good luck.
If you stick with it for a while, Cherry has many lessons to teach.

The late Jimmy Taylor made and sold thousands of hickory backed cherry bows.

I have a tri-lam bow my brother made with a Hickory back, Bubinga, with a Cherry belly. I’ve shot 100’s of arrows out of it, no problems. It’s over 10 years old.

After I posted my comment, I realized it was about selfbows...I was still waking up.

I won't use cherry for a selfbow again, but I will continue to use it in other bows.
I've had good results backing it with very thin hickory, 1/16" is plenty, love it in glass bows, and while i wouldn't use it on the belly of a trilam, it's good in the center.
