This evening I pulled my old Hickory self bow off the rack that I built around 15 years ago.....Wow! From 10 to 25 yards everything was falling effortlessly into the kill. I had a few bad shots due to operator error but all in all it impressed me immensely. I hadn't strung the old girl for years and it was amazing how well it shot. After shooting it this evening I'm feeling the need to craft another. This could cause a new addiction.... I shouldn't have done that.

Yup . Just started out needing to make a bow to shoot my crudely made stone point arrow. Almost 50 bows later and no end in sight. In fact I think it's getting worse. It's a good problem to have. Better start cutting some wood. Bjrogg

The bow begins this weekend. I've got a monster mulberry that needs trimmed and I should get some good 4" and 6" diameter building stock out of it. That should yield plenty to keep me in material for a loooonngg time.

Paul, I was a little disappointed after I built my Hickory bow, the heavy moisture here in Florida took it's toll. I started out with a 50lb bow after shooting a hundred arrows through it and was happy as a clam. I had eight coats of tru-oil, I thought I had it made. That is where I was wrong, the limbs took a deflex and I ended up with a 40lb string follow bow, I didn't shoot it for a while then picked it up this past week and shot some of the best shots I have in the last 50 years.

Look at todays FSOD, three arrows in a 1.5 inch circle at 15 yards.

Go for it and post the build, I did learn something though, I would do things a little different to help maintain the poundage that I was shooting for, it's all a learning experience and an addiction.
