I've had meat from 3 different moose. One was excellent, one was so-so, and one was lousy. Probably from the way it was processed. I have had far more elk, and none of it was ever so-so, and definitely none was lousy. I'll be the odd duck and say elk is my favorite, especially dry cow.

I have shot only two elk and both were bad eating . The bull was tough but it tasted ok the cow was so stringy and tough we had to pressure cook it and it was still hard to chew the cow was 6 years old and the bull 4 and I have had other elk that wasn't so good . My dad shot a moose every year in Canada in the 50s and 60s so I grew up on it. I can only remember a bad one that was a big bull and it was full of gristle. Deer and antelope are better than elk by far .

I've taken and eaten several of both elk and moose. It kind of depends on the age of the animal as well as how it's been cared for of course. If you compare the best elk to the best moose, I'd take moose, good flavor and some of the most tender meat you'll find anywhere. On the other hand the toughest elk is WAY better than the toughest moose. A tough moose takes toughness to a whole new level.

Tried elk once. Never tried moose. I thought the elk was the best tasting meat I've ever eaten! Now I'd like to try moose. I'll go moose hunting, if I can get MT to quarter and pack the meat out for me.

I’m an old man now,but as child I was raised on wild game, moose, elk and deer, it’s all we had.Everything depends on how well the animal is taken care of in the field. Get the skin off right away ,get it cleaned ,and get it hung and cooled quickly it will all be good.I honestly prefer a young moose, pretty tough to beat.

I have only had (BC) elk once and it was good. Our moose hunting group in Ontario have only taken bulls as we Bowhunt the rut and call them in . The venison from a young bull is better than that from an old raging bull i think. Here in Newfoundland we have a high moose population and an abundant rainfall which makes for succulent vegitation.
The moose meat i have had here is better eating in my opinion than any other, and most people here where moose hunting is a way of life, will take a cow if they have the choice. Like any animal the quality of its feed is a major factor in the quality of the meat. The tongue is always good, best part of the moose. Sandy

I've had both and it's a flip of the coin; they're both good. Having said that, the VERY BEST wild game I've ever sunk my canines into was a year old Dall Sheep steak...If I lived in Alaska that's what I'd be eating as often as I could!

My Alaska moose backstraps we’re so tough we had a hard time eating it although they flavor was good as I recall. The remainder went to a village. Made me realize why they want non residents to shoot the 50”-+bulls. Wish I’d known about Sous vide back then.
Haven’t had a bad elk yet, but they can get tough. I bought a hand cuber and do all steaks other than tenderloin and back straps with it. Teeth ain’t as god as they used to be.
I’m getting a Sous vide tool for father day. So might skip the cuber this year; it kinda limits what can be done with it and hard not to overcook.
My vote would have to go to elk, based on the one moose I shot lol.

Well, sounds like moose is the winner. I've never had either. What is the difference in taste/tenderness? Please compare to whitetail, which I've eaten a lot.
