All regulars on the Leatherwall back then. I know that we have unfortunately lost at least one and he was an organizer of the event. God rest his soul. I miss him (Gipetto, Dean Torges) on here. I know there are some that have changed handles since back then for various reasons. Mine was DancesWithSquirrels back then. I know that handle was reused over the years during my absences from the 'Wall.

I am going to make a list of the names and see how many I can find still on here. But it would be nice if they would chime in if they are still around.

I know there were reruns of GORH 1999. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend any of the subsequent GORH's. But this was the original Leatherwall organized GORH.

I remember reading about GORH in '99 and wasn't in a position to go that year. I did go in '01 & '03, I believe. Incredible fun!

I'm still here, and have my picture as well. Attended almost all of them then some health issues cut me short.

No Ted Young isn't in that picture. But another one of the regulars still here is George Stout.

Yes it is. I don't know how many got copies of the picture after that first GORH. I had two of them. I can't find one of them right now but I know it is somewhere among my packed away stuff.

Sure surprised I didn't get more response from some of the old timers who might still be around. Oh well.

Cool picture. I wish I had a photo of the group I hunted javelina and hogs with in S. Texas in the mid-90's.

It was a traditional only hunt that was organized by Gerald Fougerat of Gonzales, TX. I recall meeting Roger Rothhaar there, and many other well known folks in the traditional community who I didn't know at the time. I sure wish I could go back and meet them all again.

I helped an older gentleman find a javelina he had shot, and he was extremely grateful. A day later, I watched from a distance as he shot another one and it died where it stood. I walked up and said "I found the second one you shot this weekend" with the javelina laying at our feet. LOL We both got a great laugh out of that.

That was the first time I got to shoot a 21st Century hybrid longbow (I had seen them a few years before IIRC but never shot one).

Good times.

Hunts like these are very good for the sport.

I'm here,just not much into archery as I was.

I'll sound off as "here". I've got 2 of the GORH pictures too. Fond memories of that gathering where I got to meet a ton of neat folks and make new friends. Fell head over heels for osage bamboo longbows and a special recurve, the Jerry Pierce Choctaw.

I'm shooting a stickbow as much as I can, both at my local range and when I take to the woods with hopes to fill the freezer. Haven't been keeping score much but have a notion to give it another whirl. Much like we found joy that brisk Ohio day launching arrows forth with clout, I still find similar joys and marvels in loosing an arrow.

It was definitely a great event for the Leatherwall gang that attended. Jerry Pierce and Paul Comstock were both there and it was an honor to meet them and to be able to say I met them even briefly.

To produce the "scrap" Jan Adkins' would need for his wonderful illustration I photographed each of these guys individually (had to grab the timid ones by the collar). Sent prints to Jan who translated each face into an ink drawing. Jan's work was miraculous.

Doug, we didn't kill many rabbits in 1999 but we sure tried. My recollection could be wrong but I seem to remember that the entire gang of us only got three.

Rabbits are hard to get, I started hunting Jack rabbits when I was about 8 years old. I was 12 before I killed my first one.

After we shot I spent the night with Dean and the missus...in the morning we stepped outside...he nailed a bunny in his garden with his first arrow while I was still half asleep.

I remember it but not part of the hunt.I started in early 90s. God bless,Steve

What seems like a thousand years ago,Dean asked me to take care of the final coordination and shipping on the print. In anticipation in case there were any damaged or lost,I ordered several additional "back up" copies. Several laminated copies remain rolled up and stored in the loft of my house.

If one of the original attendees (or anyone who likes archery history and WISHES they could have been there) sees this and are interested in a getting a copy. Feel free to touch base...

Those were grand times, and GORH was a wonderful experience.

I wasn't there (I'm an MHH alumnus myself) but I love this thread. I've been coming to the LW since late '97 or early '98

I did not even have a computer back than, had no idea of this site or others,,,,,,,

I vaguely recall that the first hints of a possible GORH appeared on a long-lost trad newsgroup and especially gravitated around Gepetto (Saint Torges) and the late great Tom Mussatto...before LW fully existed...

I don't remember all the details about how that 1999 GORH came about. But I was on the Bowsite before they split off the Stickbow site and the Leatherwall. I don't know any exact dates but I ordered my first custom bow from Ric Anderson in 1997. At that time the Leatherwall had been going for a little while already because I was introduced to Ric on here. I had that bow with me at GORH and I still have it. It is my favorite bow. Sure wish Dean and Tom were still around. I also sure wish Ric was still making bows.
