After shooting my 1956 Bear Polar Tues afternoon, (62” - 77#) it came apart 11” from the tip on the upper limb, where I had repaired it. About a year ago, when I was coming out of the woods on a gravel trail, I tripped on an exposed tree root, and my bow hit the rocks and suffered a 3/8” tear across the belly glass. I repaired it by wrapping ff serving material and glue around the limb. It worked just fine since last Fall. I hadn’t unstrung it, and it let go in the car on the ride home. I’m just glad I wasn’t shooting it when it let go. It was my favorite bow by far. Now I’m looking for it’s replacement.

MStyles,

I used to own that bow. It makes me sad as well. Just this year, Ive had two heavy weight 50s era Bears give up on me. One was a 1954 #75 Grizzly and the other was a 1956 Kodiak #70. The Kodiak was MINT. Ive pretty much given up at this point on the vintage heavies. I think their glue is finally reaching its expiration...Good luck on your search.

My heaviest old Bear is a 55# Compass K and so far so good. All others are between 42 and 52# with upper 40's the most common that I have. My condolences! Do I see another repair before you hang it up on the wall, or will you hang it as is? Lance

Zmonster, I still have a 74# mid 50’s Kodiak. It’s a good bow, but I like the way a “longcurve” shoots. My Polar broke bc It got damaged hitting some rocks. I believe if you find one that isn’t dried out, it’ll last. Maybe you’re right about the glue. I’m still grieving the loss of my favorite bow,

Lance, normally I would try something to keep it in play, but even I don’t want to push my luck with another repair. Right now, I don’t know what to do with it...I’m just glad it didn’t break at full draw...I don’t getting smacked in the forehead and bruising a couple of ribs. A little pain reminds you of how nice it is to feel good, anymore than that, hurts too much! ^<>^
