My daughter mentioned to me the other day that my arrows were making a wizzing noise when I shot. They are home made shield cut 3/4" x 4". What height/size do you guys shoot, I'm think'n I can go lower for less noise.

5/8" is what i burn mine at. My arrows are very well tuned so I don't need much feather.

The more helical the more noise but different shapes cause more noise too. What shape are you using? >>>----> Ken

A standard commercial height is 9/16, though some are 5/8. Three-quarter inch is darn near a flu-flu. Definitely contributes to increased noise and don't need that much.

Without knowing arrow weight draw weight extra,,,,3/4" is on the high side,,,but id bet fletching off set instead of helical will cut down slot of noise

Yes 5/8" is plenty. 4" is good. Shield is not bad but I find parabolic a little quieter. 4" parabolic. 1/2 to 5/8 with just a tad helix or a little straight offset and I think you will notice a big difference. >>>----> Ken

I don't know if this will help. When I switched to 2 inch feathers, Truflight sent me some high profile featers, I forget what they were called. They were 16 mm. The also sent some regular height feathers that were 13 mm.
You have to know what a mm is and I don't and don't want to learn - Jimmy Carter.

I make my own templates and I rarely ever make them more than 1/2" high regardless of the shape of the cut.

Easiest thing to do would be to take a pair of scissors to one and see if it helps. lol It does seem a little high. I like a 4" parabolic. It seems to be quite a bit quieter than the big shields. Im not sure how high they are.
