Came across some old archery items recently and found these old taper tools. I tried to make as many complete sets as I could. They have inserts for 11/32, 5/16, 9/16. I’ve never seen this style before. Look familiar to anyone?

Id say Blackhawks. I have one exactly like it. Works decent on cedar shafts but not so good on hardwoods. For those I use a drill press/disk sander.

I have a set of the black ones and agree with Robertson. Mostly, I use to retaper a shaft when I breakout off behind the tip and don't want to set up the taper grinder.

I use my 12” disk sander to taper mine too. I haven’t used a hand taper tool in years. Especially on my poplars. These were part of a lot that I got in trade. May have to pass these on to some one in need. In fact, if anyone is need of a set send me a PM.

Yeah, they’re for tapering old phone poles. ;) 9/32

That was a typo. My wife was rushing me out the door.

Yep, I remember those. I had a set in the fifties when I made arrows as a kid. Seems to me I recall they also had a 1/4" size adaptor. I was a kid, what did I know?...but if I remember correctly they worked well for the home arrowmaker. The one I had were black in color. Don't recall the manufacturer or where I ordered them from...perhaps C.E. Love at Fleetwood Archery in Colorado.

I have a set. Got mine from Don Brown out of Riverside,CA. back in the 80’s. I needed the 3/8” tool as I was using Ramin dowelrods from homestore for arrows. I was shooting a BW 80# at 29”. Also used the 1/4” tool for my kids arrows.
