Going to Maine this September to see if I can get me a bear with my pika longbow. I talked to my guide last night about using a hub style blind for the hunt. He said I could try it if I wanted to and he could build a natural blind as well. What do you think is the way to go?

I prefer a natural blind as you can see what's going on around you, as a hub blind is too restrictive, and that Bear can come in from any direction. Good luck on your hunt. Joel

I agree, shooting several bears, I prefer a good natural blind, its a better feel, in my opinion,,,,, good luck on the hunt

I’ve hunted Maine many times. Even worked in a couple. Here’s a word of advice for starters. Don’t forget a thermacell. You may very well need it. Now if you’re using a blind you’d be on a bait hunt. Yea you may have a few blind spots but a hub blind has it seems some scent minimilizing affects. Certain animals shy away from them so maybe put your blind in a previously brushed in area. No where im Maine is it not thick, often you’re only view is to a bait and maybe a cut path in. Seeing all around you is useless if you can only see 5-10 feet. Open just the necessary windows to shoot toward bait and perhaps another approach route. Sometimes the bears circle. Still in Maine where the bears def feel pressure I’d opt to blow scent hopefully above them and use a treestand. Answer to your question is imo 100% the hub blind given the two choices

I'd rather be in a tree to be honest.

If using a popup blind ask the guide to put it up a month before your hunt. It will give bears time to get used to it. Gives protection form insects as well.

Thanks for the input guys, really appreciated. One concern I have about sending a hub blind up is what if a bear gets “curious “? Is there a good chance of that happening if it gets set up to early? I definitely like the idea that if the blind has a black interior and if I wear black clothes I can get away with a little bit of movement.

Natural blinds are great until it rains.

Get him to build a natural blind it will be conditioned. Take a nice 360 Milinium chair. 2 skeeter getters also.

What ya mean rather be in a tree. You got any balls or what. You don't sit to pee do ya.LOL

Umbrella if it rains.

My FIL borrowed a Primos blind from a friend one time to use on a bear hunt. A bear destroyed it the first night we put it up. Just something to think about.
