Stump shooting around here is brutal. Our climate is so dry, stumps don't rot, they petrify. I have hundred year old ones that are still hard as rocks! I've tried Judos, field tips, blunts and bullet points. They all bounce off or fracture. I need a shock absorber arrow! Anybody else have this problem and maybe a solution?

Get some HTM blunts. I think that FS Discount Archery on the west coast sells them. Not many people do anymore, but they are great for stumping. Don't use a point inside of them though unless it's a blunt. I just push them onto the shaft.

Blunts are what I shoot cause they are cheap and I like making arrows so breaking them isn't a big deal. try shooting pinecones instead of stumps or quarter size rocks. An acorn. A dandy lion head. An ant. Stumps really are to big a target anyways.

Get some Judos, don't shoot at rocks (or any facsimile thereof), and make the world your target.

I use judos, but don't have the issue you do. George has a good suggestion. BearPaw (Henry Bodnik) sells something similar. I think Kustom King has them.

Stumping is just a term, and is the same as roving. You surely don't have to shoot anything that will break your arrows. That would be filed under common sense. Still, the HTM blunts can save arrows on those mistakes which do happen.

Also check with "The Footed Shaft". I think they come in 5/16", and 11/32".

HTM Blunts work good but they will fly 50 yards if they glance off.

If I miss the petrified stumps, the arrow is sure to hit a rock. Never tried the rubber heads, they might work. I was thinking about a rubber pad at the end of the shaft, with a aluminum cap, or something along those lines. Also was wondering if a tip with a blade profile would be better than a point, going into hard targets. Guess I need to do some experiments.

I live in eastern Oregon where we have tons of juniper. I use rubber blunts and judo points. I also often times shoot stuff other than stumps, i.e.: flowers, sticks, etc.
Good luck

For me, judo's are the best for arrow retrieval. I don't shoot stumps much, they have a tendency to turn into something else while the arrow is in flight.

I just use those small game blunts for any practice. 200gr upfront and kill lots of lions roaming my place. Thats dandy lion's. The golf ball size puffs makes an great target that simply dissapears when you hit it. Never lost an arrow as the small game head acts like a judo.

Has anyone used the G5 SGH (small game head)? They are pricey, but the look almost indestructible, and they appear to have a design that would prevent burying in stumps or grass. I've been wanting to try them, but have been scared by the cost.

I like the hex heads. I use them for squirrels and roving. While I'm a big Zwickey broadhead fan, never been overly excited about Judo's. I've broke the spring arms on more than one. I'll also use a steel blunt with a wing nut behind it, weighed out on a grain scale to get the right weight of course.
