Nice find, good steal, I mean steel. I had to stop going to garage sales, I kept getting beat-up by hardcore Women shoppers.

I'm assuming those are colored leather washers and not wooden. Am I right? Never seen a handle quite like that. Like the knife a lot!

Nice design blade almost looks like a skinner.
Three washers behind the tang, isn't that a bit unusual Knifeguy
The pommel is an old standard.
Nice find, a bit different.

Herdr made some excellent knives out of Solingen Germany. Great steel that is easy to get razor sharp. I've got a lock back "sod buster" style Herdr knife that I'll post a pic of when I get home.
Your knife looks like a winner.

Ron. Not unusual at all. What I really like, and what sets this knife apart is the multi colored stacked handle. It's probably some colored lucite or similar plastic. IMHO this is easily a $50 knife. Soligen steel from this era (1950's) is some of the best cutlery steel there is. Herder has been around since the late 18th or early 19th century if I recall correctly. Lance

I don't know if we should be taking knife advice from a guy named "Knifeguy" on here. He could be any Tom, Dick, or Harry and probably doesn't know a skinning knife from a putty knife.
DISCLAIMER: This was intended to be a humerous post. No offense was intended. No offense was meant. I don't know Knifeguy. In fact, I don't know much in general. I am on a three day weekend, holiday, vacation, and I have been drinking. God bless all, and please remember our fallen soldiers.

The steel in his knives (at least on the two I have owned) is very easy to sharpen on a simple stone, and can be made unbelievably sharp. I'm talking shaving - FACE shaving sharp!

My Dad had this Edge Brand German made knife in his collection. He knew knives, he was a knifesmith at Oneida Limited Silversmiths for 40 years. This is my favorite knife in my possession. Solingen steel, the best.
