I got invited to go pig hunting yesterday and had a blast. I was able to shoot a small pig and a fairly good boar.

Good deal, kill 'em all! Super nuisances! And they eat fawns by the hundreds, probably thousands here in TX!

Gettin' a little warm here in Texas for me to hog hunt. I don't like the river bottoms when it gets over 90 degrees.

Nice piggy there.

Thanks I hadn’t done any pig hunting in a few years and I forgot how much I enjoyed it.

Scott, not as many as Texas but "any" are too many. And it's free huntin here. That pic is in the Kiamichi river valley in SE Oklahoma.

So being a yankee boy I have a question. How do you guys keep the meat from going bad in a hurry in such warm weather? I get it if you’re close to home but I always wondered how long one has under those conditions?

I quartered mine a put it on ice. You probably would not want to shoot one 3 miles from your truck, but we could get to these fairly easily.

Build a fire and cook it

We would have eating a while

Like Cowboy said, keep an ice chest handy and don't hunt too far in.

I read where if you put salt with ice it will drop the temperature lower. Ice might last longer too.

Also, don’t forget to drain water once or twice a day and add ice.

Great job. Congrats on a job well done!! The smaller one looks to be a good size for spit roasting whole.

Mick,,,,salt melts ice thats why they pour it on the roads were it snows ; ) Even table salt

Actually if you get the skin off them and start cooling them you have more time than most folks would think to get them out. Just carry an old pillow case or some game bags to wrap the meat up in you can't haul out the first trip. And hang it up in a tree.
