Hi I need help. I got this longbow and I don't know who made it. There are no identifying marks on the bow other than the serial #. If anyone knows who made this I would really appreciate it if you would let me know.

Its a 68" 65# longbow with Serial # PS0104

Kind of looks like a Check Mate Crusader I once had.

I believe that is a Hoyt Rogue that Jeffery made for them back in the 90's(?).

I have no idea but I like it. It's a very symmetrical riser design that appears to have a short riser and long working limbs. Nice find.

Checking my records, it is a Sky Rogue, that Earl introduced after selling Hoyt and creating Sky Archery. He had both this model and the Sky Trophy, a more standard type deflex/reflex longbow. Definitely a Sky Rogue. Not sure about the Jeffery help on that model, so disregard that part.

It's a checkmate crusader. I've owned a couple of the Hoyts and the riser is different on the Hoyts as you can see in the picture that George posted. I have shot a few Checkmates that looked exactly like that.

He also had a Sky Eagle one piece recurve, and a takedown bow as well.

Okie dokey then. I'll defer to eagle_eye since he has one. ;) And yes, I looked at the two together and the difference is obviious. Thanks Clint.

Well after refreshing my memory and looking at a few pics of the Checkmate,I don't think that's what it is either. The riser is a little different and the limbs are too straight. Both the Checkmate and the Hoyts would have more r/d in the limbs.

Jeffery did make a bow like that, but I'm not sure of the overall design since I don't have one, or even a photo of one.

Still think it may be a Crusader. Notice how the center lam has a reverse taper. Also Check Mate bows were marked with a stckey back label with their logo on it and come off quite easily or did on my bow. Denny Sturgis Sr

The Checkmate serial number would start with cm not ps and the limbs would have more of a pronounced r/d to them.

I'm going to guess that the 0104 probably indicates the year it was built and that it was the 104th build of that year...

So who is/was PS?? Gonna guess not Paul Schaefer, but that's the only name I can come up with for those initials....

Another thought, Check Mate made bows for Steve Gore and others who put their put their own names on them. Not saying I am right but sure looks like a Crusader Looked up Checkmate Crusader on google and looked similar

I remember in the early 90's PSE came out with two traditional bows, a recurve and a longbow. The longbow looked very much like this one. I don't know who made the bows for them, but it may explain the PS.

I think they were called the Raven and Sequoia, but not sure.

The Heritage series Raven by PSE said "By Jeffery Archery" on the limb.

Yes it did, could that have been rubbed off?

I don't know who made it, but it's a very smart design from what I can tell in the pictures.

It looks like the glass and laminations were glued as a "billet". And then the riser was put on sandwhiching the "billet" between the 2 halves.

Running the glass and laminations full length through the riser stiffens the hnadle considerably and eliminates a LOT of flex in the riser.

seems like the design has 4 very abrupt fades to me---hey its still in one piece!

Well I found a Checkmate Crusader collector and he told me it definately isn't a Checkmate made bow... and it doesn't look like a Sky Rogue to me. I will check out the Heritage Series Raven by PSE.

Thanks so much for all the help. If anyone could help me find the maker I would greatly appreciate it

It isn't a Rogue for sure. I have one hanging in the rack.

M-

It's PSE Heritage Sequoia made by Jefferies. I have the same bow.

Caveat, PSE never made a stickbow, so while it is a Jefferies made bow, it could have come with anyone's decal on it.

Viper out.
