Anybody ever have trouble threading aluminum broadhead adapters into aluminum arrow inserts? They just don’t seem to go in real easy. I’m guessing because the metal is so soft?

Sometimes you have to chase the threads to clean them out. I usually try to remember to do that before I put them in the arrows.

If they’re old they sometimes will oxidize a bit and cause this.

Bronze is better unless you need minimum weight.

I keep a 8/32 tip handy. Lots need to be cleaned up.

An 8/32 tap is a good thing to have, but you need to remember to insert a field point in the adapter before gluing it in the shaft, so you don't get glue up into the threads. A tap is cheap and pretty handy when you do need it. I've used aluminum inserts since the 1960's so they work just fine.

One thing I've done over years that I've found works pretty good for me. After chasing the threads I put a small dab of " Never Seize' on the threads of a field point and screw it in and out a few times,it will help keep the aluminum from galling up.

Sometimes putting bow string wax on the threads of the Broadhead adaptor works to help lube. Sometime tolerances can be really tight, sometimes oxidation as mentioned, sometimes some fine crud can get into the shaft insert's threads. Many times I have found the adapter won't work in one insert but will in another. Have used them for 30 years. As mentioned if you can get a tap and clean out the shaft inserts can help. Have had similar issues with screw in steel points in the shaft inserts over the years also, one point may fit another one won't. Just happens DANNY

Bow string wax on the threads. Years ago when Bear came out with the stainless steel Bear Razorheads they had a stainless blade and an anodized aluminum ferrel. They were notorious for seizing up prior to going in all the way, once they stopped they weren't ever moving again. String wax on the threads fixed that problem.
