I've heard a lot of stories about how the USPS has damaged packages. Seems they aren't alone. This came today from UPS. Luckily the seller had it protected well and there wasn't any damage

It isn't odd to me that the only damaged bows I ever got were in round tubes. Luckily they survived the trip. I'll never use a round tube to ship a bow again. FedEx had both of the ones that I had issues with.

Round PVC tubes are all I use and USPS is all I use. Probably well over 50 bows by now. Zero damage, zero tardy deliveries and zero lost packages. Riddle me that.

Well, that's okay, I'm told I'm just lucky to use fastflight string on old bows with no issues....for ten years. Another riddle me.

UPS mostly sucks! USPS is the best, priority, insured! NO TUBES! Now schedule 40 PVC mite be a different barrel of Widows!;^)

George you know full well that fastflight strings will saw the tips clean off them old bows, you are lucky my friend :)

I don't know why the P.O. continues to take round tubes. They advised me against it. My Mother in Law retired from the P.O. and said the same thing. They roll off conveyor belts and get hung up. I have been lucky too but I recieved a tube last week that was kinked and mashed nearly flat by something that left black marks and a tad of grease. Lucky it was soft goods a bow would have been crushed.I also know that the heavier and more solid a package looks the more it gets tossed around and other stuff goes on top. It amazes me that a lightweight arrow box with fragile shafts always arrives in perfect condition. Of course your mileage may vary and you may remain lucky.Others are not so lucky.>>>----> Ken

Was going to ask why round tubes were not good but 2 bears answered my question.

Last longbow I shipped was in a heavy duty triangular box. Somehow USPS managed to bash the end and caused a small delam on the overlay. The recipient fixed it and hopefully it's staying in one piece.

PVC for me. USPS Sometimes they send them in the wrong direction, Drybones knows about this. But they get there in perfect shape. Unless I do something wrong, sorry Ted :-) my fault for not, packing the extras well :-( my fault. USPS is for me :-) JF

Considering how a young UPS driver,came into our place last Saturday and did a doughnut in front of our house,,it dont surprise me,one bit..

Any of those cardboard tubes made in a spiral can pop open just like pop n fresh dough tubes. A friend of mine had a gun barrel damaged when one came apart. Be sure to put extra tape over the spiral seams when using these kind of tubes.

I've had far fewer packages lost, damaged or not delivered on time with USPS then any other shipping company. And I used to send out shipments at least twice a week.

I worked shipping and receiving for eight years before my current job. I've seen damage from all major carriers... It's a crap shoot. If you're shipping something, pack it to survive a 15 ft fall into concrete, and if it's light enough to be thrown and played football or soccer with, it will be. That's a fact. Over-pack anything you want to survive. That means a box packed within a box, a tube (square or round) reinforced with lumber or at the very least completely wrapped with packing tape. On tubes, reinforce those cheap plastic ends! They're not worth the plastic they're made of if you're shipping a pointy or semi pointy object (like long bow limbs) Do NOT use duct tape! It's worthless for shipping!

Imo, triangular is no better or worse than the others if not reinforced. I've seen them torn up too...

I agree as well, I have never had any problems with USPS. I always mail a bomb proof package with no worries that it will arrive in one piece. Look at it this way, mail people handle millions of packages every day. A long tube with a $1,000 bow in it is not any different then a box full of .50 cent teddy bears. Both get tossed on conveyor belts and stuffed into the back of trucks with tons of other packages piled on top of them. I always use PVC crush pipe with padded caps and as much bubble wrap as I can get around the bow. If I can find a box to put the tube in so much the better, then tape the crap out of it.

PVC wont stand up either I had two tubes of bows shipped home from Denton hills and both were smashed in multiple pieces. Only a rectangular box is safe bubble wrap and tape the wrap to the bow . UPS is bad as is FedX, USPS is the best but their insurance isn't worth buying .I ship bows every week so I knock on wood ... (exotic wood ).

UPS, FedEx, and DHL all deliver to the USPS.

I get lots of packages delivered to my PO by those other services all the time.

What I'm hinting at is - Even though the USPS is the final destination before going into you hands, it may not be the USPS doing the damage.
