Anyone dip and crest aluminum? Any examples or pics, tips, etc.

Can't find any pics right now. Just like any other shaft material, PREP the shaft, dip or spray the crown, crest and clear.

I know a few guys that use Rustoleum bare metal primer first.

Some done by a 12 year old.

I used to do a thinned coat of white first. Then dip the final color. Then crest. I used the stinky Bohning Fletch Laq. Didn’t do a clear by Bohning instructions, the clear Laq took off the crest. They now sell a water based product to go over the cresting. But, a dip in MinWax water based Polycrillic is better yet. Fletch Tite or Sanders NPV glue for fletching. Should add, if your going to try flo colors you need to dip a coat of white first. And don’t forget to prep those shafts.

I always use a simple black/silver crest on all arrows. When I had my trad shop, anyone who saw the crest knew where those arrows came from.

I stopped dipping them many years ago. Now I use wraps and crest them.

What’s the difference in weight between a good dip and a wrap-job?

Paint is usually much less than the weight of a wrap. I want to say 50% but I don't have the numbers handy. If it's not, you didn't thin it nearly enough.

The weight will vary depending how thick/thin the dip is. Also, whether or not you clear coat them and, how much cresting you put on. I doubt it's all that much.

Depends on paint but I found found a coat of spray paint over the entire shaft is about 10 grains
