Ordering a new custom bow is an exciting event. Pondering the dimensions, the wood, picking a bowyer, checking the checking account, etc. How long do you stay excited after you place the order? Does your excitement continue to grow? How long past the "expected" delivery date do you continue to check your email and wait for your phone to ring or look at that bowyer's FaceBook page for pictures of your bow?

I don't think it works the same for everyone. I'm sure you will find out how it works for you though. ) Just don't pee yourself.

I've got a couple customs from the same bowyer. While the anticipation was there, I knew how busy he was and wasn't about the bug him. Everything in it's own time.

That was a couple years ago, and those are still the only sticks I've got...or will ever need.

I haven't ordered a bow since Jan 3rd. I hope the 2 I have coming are as good as I got. I think I am done. I am still excited about the one that I have. Others fade away and some I like gir a fea shots once in awhile. Rooty

I am still excited about the bow I had made over a year ago. I don't show it off as much as Frisky did that ugly turquoise thing, but It's still a favorite. The anticipation was really high, and I was sent one of the same model to enjoy while mine was being built. The difference in lust or love. Lust after one bow to the next, or love the one you have. :)

I consider myself lucky that I have been able to order three bows made for me. I enjoy selecting the type of bow, the length, and especially the woods. I find the wood selection the most exciting part because I already believe that the bow will shoot well but I want to make it look striking. I don't need another bow but a riser of Macassar Ebony or Karelian Burch haunts me. The anticipation grew after the order was placed because the shipping date was always getting closer. The excitement is still there when I shoot any of them. They shoot well, they are eye catching, and are unique.

To be honest, I haven't gained much in utility or performance over my Bear Grizzly from 1979 ($40). I think the good thing is that if you are not able to play in the custom market, you can get a lot of value and variety for your money in the used market. Conversely, if you order a custom then sell it, expect to loose half of what you paid for it. Happy Shooting.

I placed an order with Acadian Woods in March of 2015. Still waiting. I'm wondering if I will live long enough to receive the bow. May be interested in selling my spot which should pan out by Summer.

Depends on how good the bow is. I've had customs that the excitement faded the same day. And then I have one made by a certain fella from New Mexico that I still look forward to shooting.

Don't care how excited I get about a bow no way I would wait 3 yrs. to get one, bowyer shouldn't even take orders if he's that back logged, a lot can happen in that length of time.

After ordering a couple, one was great and one was a turd, I discovered that neither was really worth it to me. So, I guess the excitement went pretty slowly on one and the a couple of days after I received the other one. Now I will probably just buy used cause for me a good deal makes me happy much longer than a shiny new bow. haha

No way I would wait 3 years on a bow. No one is that busy.,

I odered my two over 25 years ago, actually one was over 35. The most excited I was is when I take them out to this day, every time. I wasn't excited until they were in my mitts, and now I am excited every time I pick them up forevermore.

I am so fickle that I dare not order a custom bow. Maybe two weeks at the most. The thought keeps going through my head that I could buy, play with, and sell twenty or thirty different bows in that interim period. So little time, so many bows.

...depends on how long it takes for me to pay off the charge on the credit card!! :) -ted

Matt -

I'm sorta in a different position than most. None of the "features" you mentioned really mean anything to me and a bow is basically a tool I shoot with. Frankly, I haven't been "excited" about a bow in decades. At this point, it really is more about the Indian than the bow.

Viper out.

I'm sort of in that boat as well. I haven't ordered a custom bow in probably 10 years, but I have purchased a fair number of slightly used bows during that time. Regardless, I've been shooting sticks for more than 60 years, and I know the kind of bow I like and luckily, I have several now that I never tire of shooting.

I ordered ONE custom bow 22 years ago. I got it pretty quickly and it was awesome; exactly as I expected (a Cascade). It was the first really high quality recurve I had handled. Over time, my tastes and the style of bows has changed. I looked at lots of bows at various shoots, played with other guy's bows at shoots, and completed a mental picture of my perfect bow. I visited the bowyer's shop, decided he was my guy. I've ordered the bow and now the 4 months delivery time has extended past 5 months, and the excitement has become tiring. I had hoped to have it for some early 3 D shoots and to hunt turkeys with it. I guess it is silly for a middle aged man to dream about toys. I just hope that the excitement returns after it gets here.

On average, I get a new bow about every 2.5 years. It's not planned, just seems to work out that way.

I used to only buy customs with various waiting periods. The excitement built for months as I contimplated my choices, then finally placed my order. The anticipation of the new bow got hard to take as the weeks or months went by. By the time it got here I was pretty much a mess.

I know a guy that was so happy when his custom finally came he actually wanted to take it to bed with him! The wife nixed that idea real quick. Seemed logical to me.

I always sell a bow to fund the next one and I never have more than five at any given time. Selling a bow can be a gut wrenching decision too. I've mulled over how to thin the herd for a couple years until I finally made up my mind.

My last three purchases were economical Asian bows. Typically less than a weeks wait for stock bows. I still get pretty excited during the process.

Boys need their toys.

"How Long Until Your Excitement Fades?"

Until, you get it....shoot it a while....and then realize it didn't make you a better shooter at all. :o) The plus side will be it looks great while you are shooting it. :o) Just teasing....enjoy! Regards

South, I think I have the prettiest girl I will ever see as my wife now, so I'm good on that end. I think I have ordered the prettiest custom bow available, and I thought the bowyer would agree. I guess my order is not his next grail, so... anyway, this thread has achieved its purpose, and I'm over being a cry- baby about waiting. I'm 50-something and I should be patient...

Was out cruisin' for babes, or more like going to lunch, saw a beautiful strawberry blonde, more strawberry than blonde. I told my wife, who is retiring this week, saying I got to go shoot arrows to work off some pent up energy. She wants to get a purse pistol. Maybe, I should quit telling her about beautiful girls. No one is more impatient than me. When I have a bow coming, i cannot sleep. But honestly, a bow does not become near and dear until I have shot it a bunch of timesI will let a couple of elect individuals try a few shots with my bows when they are new, but after I have killed a few rabbits, a deer or two or a few pheasants, I generally let no one touch them. I let a lefty shoot my lefty Morningstar, 11 rabbits one pheasant and two deer, last week. It was a very painful experience.
