Hello. I have a super kodiak I could not shoot well. I think I figured it out and i have to white knuckle the grip and it will hit where I am aiming. I like to let the bow rest in my hand when i shoot so it feels really weird to me. All of my other bows shoot well with me just letting it rest in my hand and im worried that if i take the kodiak out hunting my muscle memory will kick in and ill end up gripping it wrong and wounding an animal. Is there anything i can do so I can shoot it with a different grip?

I bought a Super Kodiak last summer and could not hit the broad side of a barn with it. No matter how hard I tried, nothing seemed to work. I bought a stabilizer and a bow sling so I knew I wouldn't drop it by NOT using a death grip. Besides, even a death grip didn't help. I started shooting better... a little. Then SB reminded me to push and pull when I shot. This made a world of difference. I was able to remove the stabilizer and bow sling, and I've been loving my Super Kodiak ever since!

I'm thinking about buying one, what were you guys shooting before that was so different from the super kodiak?

I've had some bows I had to grip awkward. This certainly isn't one of them. Rooty

Zagnee i think for me its the high wrist grip. All of my bows are low wrist. Other than that this bow is amazing. But im not going to keep it if I can't shoot it like my others. So its up for sale

Fishgut,

Instead of a "death grip", try placing the tips of your bow hand fingers on the back of the grip. That placement should convince you the bow will not leave your hand and allow you to shoot with a relaxed hand. Or, you could try encircling the grip with only your index finger and thumb, and straighten the other fingers toward the target.

Yes the grip is different, but it will force you to notice and not be confusing under stress of a hunting shot. Others have done it and you can too.

Im not afraid of the bow dropping. I shoot every one of my bows with a relaxed hand. I can't get this bow to hit the side of barn unless I grip the heck out of it. And im worried that in the heat of the moment i will shoot it at a deer exactly how i shoot all my other bows which is relaxed hand. Iv got a million other things going through mu mind sometimes I feel like i forget to breath lol

Zagnee, I've been shooting Kodiak Hunters. Wanted to try a Super Kodiak. Took me a while, but I'm lovin' her now.

I am shooting a '76 SK #55@28". It is one of the most comfortable to shoot bows. Your problem is how the bow sits on your meaty pad below the thumb, not how relaxed is your hand. White knuckles? How many times you slap your hand during the shooting?

I have a couple SK’s. One is old, 1972 the other early 2000’s. Grips are night and day difference. The latter bow had a fatgrip, couldn’t get into it at all. Not only that the shelf sat 3/4in higher than the old bow. Had two choices, sell it, modify it, so I took my Japanese saw to it. It shoots great now after I resized the grip and lowered it.
