Hi All,

In 1997 I purchased a Palmer Classic recurve and have been shooting and hunting with it ever since. I love the bow but I now due to age I need a bow of lessor poundage. My question is: are the newer Palmers still of the same high quality? I'm on the fence between a Palmer and a Black Widow.

Thanks for any input

Wink

I've never shot a Palmer. But you can't go wrong with a Black Widow.

Palmers are still great

The Palmer's are better than ever. Not only does Mike know how to make a bow, he also knows how to shoot them. He won the Nationals 50 years ago breaking the world record, this last year 50 years later he won the Nationals again breaking the world record for a second time.

I was going to say what Bob did. I think the Palmer bows are at their zenith right now. Don't know if they will get better or not.

Not sure if they could.

Palmers are still great. Finish is excellent But, Widows are still number one in my book

I was with Mike last weekend. He is still cranking them out, and aromakr is correct. They are better than ever!

I have owned several Palmer bows made by Mike Palmer. I would agree that the bows being made today are superb, fast and represent exceptional value for the dollar. I think he makes an industrial strength bow with the 2 limb bolt design. He standardizes on Bocote and Ebony and there are not endless wood choice options ......but my take is that because he is very familiar with the same woods in continual production, he is very good at it. The single carbon lamination boosts speed a bit which I like. Both of your options are fine choices but I think you might get more performance for dollar spent and be able to shoot a lighter weight bow with a Palmer....since it will cast an arrow like a higher lb nameplate. If you want specific woods, go with the Widow. Good luck.

Wink - Why don't you just buy another set of limbs? That's the beauty in owning a take down bow. I have numerous sets of limbs (fun to mix things up). I love my 64" limbs - smooth as silk. ~ Beacon

Palmer bows are still great and you know how good they are since you already have one. I’m not crazy about Black Widow bows but that’s just my opinion, you may love them. If you are interested in a Widow you can do there test drive a bow option. Then you would know which one you like the best.

I have a palmer and a bob lee I love the grip on my palmer,i have three sets of limbs for the palmer, two fo my bob lee,to me that's the way to go just buy extra limbs used, hell of lot cheaper.my palmer is my go to bow, mike and bob lee are great to deal with.

I have many bows and my Palmer is one of my best. The past fall I shot 8 point buck with a 40 lb. Palmer. Well built and fast. Also Mike is at Denton every year. I would recommend shooting his bows.

I don’t think you could do wrong with either bow. Just a matter of preference and cost.

When I bought my 1st recurve I was very much undecided between a Widow and a Palmer. I finally chose the Widow. I now have 3 Widows and have never regretted that first decision for a moment.I am with pops !!!!!!!!! 100% Spider Man !!!

Palmers out perform my Widows, pound for pound. BW are great Bows, great customer service and I love them . But, Palmer’s are my choice between those 2.

Sooooo, I took the advice of some of the respondents to my original post and decided to call Mike Palmer with the sole intention of purchasing just a new set of 50lb limbs for my current 60lb Classic TD Recurve. We had a great talk and Mike mentioned he just happened to have a finished bow on the shelf that met my specifications which could shipped out by the end of the week. Well the next thing you know I ordered up a complete bow instead. My bad...It should arrive just in time for my birthday !

Never shot one but if I had shot one for 20 years you can bet I would stick with it

I admire you!

It's been my go to bow since I bought my first one in 2004. Now I have three, his classic at 55lbs, Bocote/ebony at 47lbs and his short riser model at 45lbs.
