Howdy!
I thought I'd share some pics of a bow being made by my Friends Shawn (Hedgehunter) and Pappy (Mark) of Twin Oaks Bowhunters. I've had some great times and memories at Twin Oaks and look forward to the TN Classic in a couple weeks. Anyway, I asked Shawn to make me a bow, and he grabbed a 9 or 10 year old Osage stave from the stash at Twin Oaks and promptly went to work.
I'd like for this to kind of a build along in spirit since I live 9 hours away in Kansas. Shawn asked me what I wanted for specs and I said as long as you can make it and 40#. As you can see it looks like the party has started! I know nothing about making these, but I will spend some time at the Classic finishing this bow hopefully with the guidance of Shawn and Pappy.

That previous picture is a few weeks old, I was sent some new pics today by Shawn. Pappy cut the outline today and and its looking a lot more like a bow now. I tell ya, if it weren't for archery I would have missed out on a lot of good friendships! The bow is now a 300# selfbow, I told Shawn I wouldn't get out of bed to shoot anything less than 305# hahaha! Anyway, Shawn has agreed to keep me supplied in pics with the progress he makes from now until the Classic.

This brings up another point, I met Shawn and Pappy obviously at Twin Oaks from IBO events. SHawn and myself have a background in the US Army, Brothers in Arms as it were. I was talking with Shawn earlier and I asked what he thought I should name it? He said anything you want but only after it's passed a 100 shot commission test! So I've thought about a few names and they encompass a couple things. Our Military backgrouond and Twin Oaks. So far off the top of my head I have these 3 as candidates. Another pic with Pappy and Grant and Gil. Shawn took the pics
"11 Bravo" "Low Crawl" "Tennessee Whiskey"

This bow is going to the woods in the morning! It's earned first spot. I put this bow on a scale and its 2# an inch to my draw. Its awesome in every way! Woodies tipped with ludicrously sharp Zwickey broadheads are in the quiver. It's gonna be a good morning and day!

Nothing else feels the same in your hand as a good selfbow. Glad you can experience the feeling.

That's a great looking bow! That's also a cool steamer, I'd like to spend an hour or so just looking around that shop!
