Saw one of these for sale today. Funky looking bow. Never saw two stabilizers on a bow before. What can you tell me about this bow? I'm still wondering if I should go back and get it.

tonto, that was 'the' bow in the early 60's and into the 70's when Hoyt made the metal riser that took over everything. Probably 70% of the archers in the 1969 World Championship at Valley Forge, Pa., was shooting the Pro Medalist.

The 3 PM was made in the least numbers, so a 62" 3 PM would be the rarest. Most were built with bubinga, rosewood was special order only and are hard to find.

The pro medalist super hunter was 62", and came out during the 4 PM run in Oct.67 if memory serves me correctly. It could be a super hunter, they were suppose to come with black stabilizer thin rods and black round weight balls. Like is shown in the picture above. I had a pretty early one that a lady had ordered in Nov 67 and she ordered it with chrome stabilizers and in east Indian rosewood. She still had the receipt in the case with the bow. Mine had really dark green glass that you had to get in the sunlight to see it was not black.
The sticker on the lower limb would say super hunter. Hard to find bows now a days.

About this time last year I decided to enter our state Senior Olympics. In the late 60's/early 70's I had a Hoyt Pro Medalist (not sure, but believe it was a 4PM). So, on this site, I inquired about buying another Hoyt Pro Medalist. I had 4 hits, and bought a very nice 5PM complete with stabilizers, sight, clicker and rest. It shoots way better than I can. At the olympics I must have had 50% of the shooters come up and check it out- they really liked the wood riser. We did ok, came in 4'th out of 28 shooters. For someone that is up there in years and just dabbling in target shooting, this bow still has it.

Nice Video George! My dad was at that tournament covering the championships for Roy Hoff's Archery Magazine. My sister and brother-in-law were also there with him. Just a note - at 12:11 of the video shows a quick shot of Marilyn and Ed Williams - John's parents. Somewhere around here I have some old slides that dad had taken. I'll have to see if I can find them. About the Hoyt PM. I still have my mother's bow that she shot before she died in 1967. She used it to win the NFAA Mid-Atlantic Championships back in 1965 or 66. She was also the third place NFAA National Champion back then.

With help from crookedstix a couple of years ago I acquired from the States 5PMH-241 62"-AMO-49# dark green glass. 1969 manufacture? The bow is in near new condition and has beautiful wood in the riser. It shoots as good as any other modern bow in my collection. In fact when you compare the limb profile with any modern ILF limb the profile is the same. I started target shooting in 1963 and in 1966 bought my first Hoyt a 2PM. I was an apprentice at the time and it cost me a months pay.
The Pro medalist Hunter was very rare in Australia and until I acquired this one I had never seen one in the flesh. The bow was a great addition to my Hoyt PM collection.

As Lost Arrow states, the best is the PM2. All others are inferior but will shoot the same. There's just something about my PM2 that makes it superior. Maybe the 30 pound draw?

And then the cream of the 2PM crop is this one-a 2PM in the 62" length, and in a hunting weight. This was a year or two before the PM Hunters came out; just the regular Pro Medalist decal on it. Probably the rarest bow I own.

Frisky, if I were you when the weather warms up to maybe 70 degrees or so, I would shoot the Pro Medalist and get rid of that new trashy take down bow. Once it's gone I think the shoulder pain will subside. It's mental. The extreme dread of shooting the new bow can cause imaginary physical issues. I dreaded gaul bladder surgery so much that my teeth itched for 3 days. When the gaul bladder was gone the itching stopped. It's time to cowboy up.

LA- All I can say is you sure have a lot of gall!
Crookedstix- I've had shoulder pain all winter due to excessive shoveling. However, spring is finally here! Today, I did the unimaginable- I strung and drew the Bear TD! It took many little pulls, here and there, before I could reach full draw. I'm still going to start out shooting the 30 pound Hoyt and then go right to the 47 pound Bear, skipping by the 45 pound Drake. That's the plan.

When crookedstix and I pulled into Austin Minnesota last October to reclaim some of Kerry's bows from "Light Fingers Frisky" we almost had that darn PM2 squirreled away in my roof carrier, along with the Skookum Mojo Frisky was also trying to swipe.
We also had five cats that jumped in to try and get to Canada and in the process of evicting those kitties Joe saw the bow and a melee ensued and he got the bow back.
Besides reclaiming bows we were supposed to have a shootoff against the Deathmaster, THE BOW at the time. But it seems Frisky could not find a wide open enough space in the middle of one million acres of cornfields! Tsk tsk!
Anyway, when he traded the Deathmaster for that rickety wrack Bear takedown he forever denied us the chance to show just how crappy the DM was.
That was the last straw...crookedstix got out the little Frisky doll and a selection of pins and put that voodoo whammy on his shoulder...has to be the voodoo curse (and not snow shovelling) as there is not enough snow in southern Minnesota to turn the grass white. In Canada we call an Austin snowstorm a heavy frost!!
That sets the record straight...and how is the shoulder today Joe!
Anyway, a PMH is one of the last bows I would like to obtain and there are some beauties on this thread! (Including Joe's...shows how nice crookedstix was...leaving Frisky a rehab bow.)

By the way, this bow can be used for hunting just as well as competitive shooting. In my opinion, a lot of bows just sit because someone likes to think they are target bows. Well, deer are targets also, and those Hoyts will do just fine in the hunting woods. So "a bow like this" is still just a bow.
