I AM INTERESTED IN THE BEAR k 4. I AM SEEKING INFORMATION FROM THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOW. IS IT OVER PRICED AT $600?

From: T4halo
Date: 18-Apr-18

I am also interested in the opinions of new K4 owners. This is the only new bow that I might spend money on.

Must be nobody has bought one of these bows yet.

There was a thread on here that discussed the K4. To my knowledge, very limited, no one had received theirs yet when the other thread was going on. There were a few who had the originals. May try to do a search for K4.

I have several of the originals, they are fine bows and available for a third the price of the new ones. I shot the new one at Kalamazoo. Nice bow, but I wouldn't say it had anything on the originals. I prefer the vintage bows myself, but that's just me.

I agree Old School, the originals are hard to beat.

But... I won't shoot my originals often. I would a new bow. That's just me.

Google Bear Archery Static K-4 review. There's a brief video that you can watch. I just did! I haven't shot a new one either but it might be fun considering that I have 2 old ones and really enjoy shooting them. Lance

I shoot my vintage Bears every day. The 59# K-4 has gotten heavy use for about 4 years now with no ill effect or diminished performance. Recently I've been adding some lighter K-4s and static Grizzlys into the rotation. All are set up with 14 strand D97 strings and tapered wood arrows of 10-11 GPPs. To each his own but I say shoot 'em, that's what they're meant for!

I just aquired my 1st K -series, vintage Bear Recurve (1st year of Patent). I'm waiting for its arrival, this happens to be a Very Very, Special Kodaik however. I purchased this bow from a seller, who bought it at the AL Reader Estate Auction, I think he bought 4 recurve @ the Estate Auction. This is a 1953 59# K-4 I believe. It's going to be displayed only. Mr. Reader had a lg. Collection of Kodiaks, this one I'm sure other than being unique and Great shape. Is Priceless, because of who it came from. Not sure what it's worth, but will be displayed proudly with my other vintage Kodiaks & Grizzlies. Otter

Shot the new model K4 at the KyTradFest couple of weeks ago. Great bow for 3D shoots. If you think you let go a bad shot you can catch the arrow before it hits the target and start over. Very poor performer in my hands. And, likely the ugliest bow I’ve ever seen. Looks like it was built with lego blocks.

George.................

Be careful there. When I made a negative post about the K4 I got plenty of negative feedback and was called a "Hater"

The one I saw was a "second" or should have been sold as such.

I shot one at the Compton big game classic in Pittsburgh and you'd have to pay me to take one. I find it ugly and it will rattle your teeth out at the shot. You can buy dozens of better bows in my opinion.

I got tired of waiting. Just as well the feed back I am getting from people I know isn't great. The 53 I have is a lot of fun and fast. Rooty

Nice bow Rooty, How's that Teeth rattling affect? :D I believe a large part of that may be in the hands of the shooter.

Bones, I have several K-4s and static Grizzlys. Tuned properly, with a D97 string and heavy (10-11 GPP) arrows they do not buzz or rattle at all, but are just clean, sweet hard hitting shooters.

From: Old School Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

You're quite welcome Cameron. It's too heavy for me to shoot with real consistency anymore, so I'm glad it's in the hands of someone who appreciates it. That said, I'll be hanging on to my 59 and 54 pounders for quite a while yet!

From: Cameron Root

None of that on this bow with 14 strands of Rhino stretched to the Barbee factor and d I dam fast. I bet if I had a 72-73# er st 26" it would be awesome. Rooty

As far as holding low wrist bows I do it like Jerry Hill explained to me of the Howard Hills way. Like picking up a suit case. I am not a 100% sure what that means but I do do my version of it. Recurves like Super Kodiak, Kodiak Magnum etc. I cradle them like George Stout has explained numerous times. Rooty

From: Old School Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 23-Apr-18

Right, I interpret that as being a firmer grip than a higher wrist recurve style grip. Not a death grip, but firm, with your whole hand wrapping the bow. That's how it works for me with my longbows and my static Bears.

I do have a pearson that I haven't figure out yet. It makes my forehead feel like I am shooting a 460 weatherby after dozen shots. The first 6 or so are fun. Rooty

I shot one of the new ones at the Pre-Spring shoot here in Alabama and I really liked it.

From: 4nolz@work

Rooty what have you heard about the new ones? I thought you already had one.

From: Cameron Root
Date: 23-Apr-18

I ordered in October cancelled in March. My understanding was I would have it around xmas. Having them in your hand has no wow factor and the glass had lines in it. 55# wouldn't do it for me. Others got them when I was supposed to. Living in the wrong country for new bear products. Nothing my distributor can do about not big enough. Rooty

Have you heard feedback on shooting characteristics?

From: Cameron Root
Date: 23-Apr-18

No not in any detail that I remember . They should be as good or better than the vintage ones which are great imo. Rooty

From: Old School Compton's Traditional Bowhunters
Date: 23-Apr-18

The new one I shot at Kalamazoo was fine, but they're running B50, so it had the same softer feel with a little vibration as my vintage bows do before I switch them to D97.

I have a new one . No hand shock very quiet . But I'm a longbow guy .have it for sale on tas

I don't own a new K-4 but have one of each year Bear made them. To quote a Founding Father ... "These were weapons not wisely laid aside" - Ben Franklin in regards using bows and arrows to help arm the colonies.

Tas = traditionalarcherysociety.com and dan has an excellent price on his K4. I checked the k4s out at kazoo. Seemed like an ok bow but the demo K4s bear had on the table had some cosmetic issues I wasn’t crazy about but I’m sure they worked the bugs out with those demo bows being some of the earlier ones.
